Now this is nice and simple, I am not a betting man, in fact, I have never been to a horse-race meeting in my life, although I have gone to the dogs, now I'm not asking anybody to be my personal tipster but I need some help..

A short while back my son paid a visit to Cheltenham with his girlfriend and her family, they are into horse racing as they are country folk, at that time Mr Redprintt put up a tip for a winner, I gave this to my son as I had followed Rp's advice and the horse romped home in first place with good odds, my son's libido and reputation soared with his girlfriend and her family, so much so that they have now invited him to accompany them to the Chepstow race meeting this coming weekend and of course he has accepted..

My problem, he is like his dad, he knows nothing about racing, the first thing he does is seek my advice about possible winners for Saturday, thinking I have some knowledge because of his last winner and of course I have encouraged him to believe I do know a bit about it, age, experience , father and son stuff and all that....

Is there any knowledgeable soul out there in 606 land that can give me any voluntary advice for Saturday's winners, I of course will be down the gate.

Thanking any of you in anticipation.....wiz... :emoticon-0111-blush

The trick is pick the horse with the funniest name <laugh> But no I wouldn't give him that advice wiz. Like you and your son I haven't got the slightest clue about horse racing. Usually though a horse with a funny name wins. That's as far as my knowledge of it goes<ok>

    Wiz,

Tell him to keep his money in his pocket and enjoy a great day out.

Cheltenham Festival next week and I took 8's about Silviniaco Conti for the Gold Cup before Christmas.
For what it's worth I reckon it's between him and Bob's Worth.
I'll do a forecast on the day.

I had a period where I was horse racing mad, quite a long one in fact Bill Marshall at Ogbourne Maizey was a visit a month for 2 years where i used to chat with LP who used to ride Raffingora AND HE MADE ME A FEW BOB

Chepstow is over the sticks..... However I managed to stop about 3 years after 3 consequecutive Grand national winners and 2 anti post derby winners and a high odds anti post placed horse...I won £ x 5 figures and the first number was not 1 2 or 5!

Why did I stop....it is addictive so be careful................

Why do you think all these ex pro's are tipsters not skinning the bookies for a living? It's a damn site easier to get money from punters for tips than from the bookies by backing horses yourself just say that you don't know too much about Horses in National Hunt races(ie those over the sticks)

Can't help you with Chepstow but can highly recommend a horse running in the Byrne Plate at Cheltenham next Thursday by the name of Hunt Ball - this horse was pulled from a race in February because the ground was too soft for him and it was public knowledge that the trainer had had a bet to win £1m in that race.

I heard the interview when he announced the withdrawal when he said that he was going to have to find a race to recoup that money and, this is it. The ground is now very much in his favour, he is currently around 7/1 (2nd favourite) and I should add that he won the race last year.

Frankly, I can't say if he is going to win but experience has taught me that when you hear a trainer be very bullish and say something like this, it is not a bad idea to speculate a little cash as opportunities of this nature do not come along too often and I have made a few bob out of picking up on comments from those in the know, like backing Papillion at 40/1 and Ballybriggs at 16/1 for the the Grand National...

As the saying in the stock market goes, "do your own research" and "no advice intended" - you bet at your own risk but I know that if Hunt Ball wins, wherever you are in the world, you will probably see me in orbit from your house.

Warning:- if you bet antepost and the horse is withdrawn before the race, you have done your money....

Mate, apart from actually riding the things when i dated a farmers daughter in a previous life, the only thing I know about them is they cost a LOT of money.
The only race I ever bet on is the national - because it's as random as you can get and the professionals tend to keep a low key.
In fact I have had some success with that race. A few years ago me and my good friend hillzider (who came up to join me in Swindle on the night before for a game of 5-a-side, a pissup and a curry) in a pub in Marborough that day studied several papers and chose our horses based on averaging out the tipsters advice.
The missus said 'I like the name Mon Mome and I also like the colours the rider is wearing'.
The race started and Hillziders and my chosen steeds were always in the leaders - until about 3 fences from the finish when there was an almighty pile-up and all the leaders fell.
Mon Mome trotted through and took the biscuit!
£300 thank you very much - with a stake of less than £10.

So, as Shiny says, pick the one you like the name of!!!

Foin AVON each way and in a 2.5p ew yankee ( +10p ew accum= a shilling! ) that won me nearly £300 the start of my "demise moneywise" as the booky always wins!

Red alligator followed and the hook was then well sunk..actually had 9 from the next 10 winners Foinavon to red rum s 3 rd conssequtive winners 8 Ragtrade didnt have it

In my 3 against the field since foinavon I have failed about 8 times to get a horse placed
