Personally all in favour of this.

As detailed in the article generally matches average under an hours "football" is actually played on average over the course of the last 16 seasons.

Interesting we appear in the article for the least amount of mins played FOUR times - with 45 or LESS mins played in 4 games this year. That's mental.

I'd bring this in and fine goalkeepers £1000 per second they hold on to the ball over the 6 seconds allowed.

    Whadyathink?

It’s not feasible in my mind. The game watch would be stop started at an alarming rate. Questions would be asked about when it was officially stopped and started.

It’s not broken and once the match goes past the 90 minutes then it’s at the referees discretion how long is added on top of the 4th official.

It’s an art time wasting anyways and part of the game.

I like the idea I just don't understand why they need to reduce it to 60 mins.. Just play the right amount of added time after 90 that's it

Time wasting isn’t part of the game and that’s why it should be stopped.

Even if it was 60 minutes and stop watched there would still be time wasting eg goalkeeper falling on the ball instead of just picking it up.

They should stop trying to tinker with the Laws and simply enforce the ones that exist.

I wish “they” would just leave things the **** alone.
UEFA have ****ed European tournaments up the arse so many times it doesn’t even resemble a competition any more. Sick of pointless, needless changes.

They need to be smarter about dealing with what is happening on the pitch. The application of VAR is embarrassing and so poorly executed. Football is moderated by utter ****ing ****s.

Can you just clarify what the rules actually are? It's just there's been a few decisions involving nufc that have left me feeling a bit muddled.

Common mistake. There aren’t any ‘rules’ as such. There are ‘Laws’. And referees have no clue as to what the ‘Laws’ are.

I think it is actually broken though. The amount of time wasting, particularly by goalkeepers is getting ridiculous. They are supposed to have 6 seconds to release the ball and some are taking nearly half a minute when they are winning. Do that 10 times in a game and that's 4 minutes of playing time lost. Add in goal kicks as well.

I would actually prefer they stick with system they have but just start penalising the goalkeepers more:
    1st time: Warning
    2nd time: Booking
3rd Time: Booking and Sending Off

It would soon put a stop to it. Alternatively award an indirect free kick to opposition after first warning.

Same with throw-ins. If they haven't thrown ball in within 5 seconds then make it a foul throw.

They just renamed cheating and time wasting to game management tactical fouls, winning free kicks and penalties.

It's coached into youth players from day 1, so in their mind they're doing the right thing

    Good luck changing it

Its actually not that difficult to change. Just need to tweak the rules and disciplinary procedures and managers would soon dissuade players from doing it if they know they will lose those players, during games and in future games, or lose an advantage by having a free kick or foul throw awarded.

I suspect though that its the managers who would create the biggest fuss about any rule changes as they are the ones ultimately responsible for it. I don't think I have met any fan who wants to see time wasting, even from his own team, or condones diving to win penalties. The "I felt contact so I was justified in throwing myself to the floor" attitude is completely wrong. Its really obvious from the players fall whether it's a penalty or not.

Everything can be argued and debates in football that's the problem. The line can't be set regimentely many decisions are down to opinion.

I'd just get rid of var and get less strict with cards etc.. Let the game flow

So time wasting and diving doesn't bother you?

I think they have the balance right now with cards for fouls but would clampdown on timewasting and diving more severely.

I enjoy watching it It's just part of the game and if they keep making rules the managers and coaches find another way.

Much like crime deterrents exist for a reason, but it never stops criminals finding a way.

Red cards and Yellow cards.. Soft freekicks is what I'd get rid of

Time wasting by a player in a corner flag shielding the ball. Fine.

A goalkeeper who catches the ball. Drops on it for 20 seconds not fine. That’s cheating.

A goalkeeper who catches the ball. Then within 6 seconds outs the ball down to then kick the ball but keeps it for 30 seconds is fine.

    Players feigning injuries. Not fine.

Managers making subs later in the game to us who time. Fine.

The rules and regs currently are perfectly fine. It’s just the application by the referees that is wrong.

Punish players for real time wasting is the way forward.

Punish players for cheating and diving. Yes please.

The one I hate though is when teams aka Man City who have most of the ball, then lose it and rather than let the other team play they do niggly fouls to stop play. And never get booked for it……..

    I agree.

For example Bruno takes the ball off a player and runs down the wing taking on 2 players and he gets tactically fouled (because he’s clever enough to get his leg on the way of an attempt to win the ball) is brilliant because it gets us up the field of play.

He’s good at “winning” freekicks because he’s a clever footballer.

Then there is ASM who is erm let’s say stupid at it and never wins the freekicks.
