It was a decent season, which I still have a few 'what if?'s about.

Had Levy been a little more on the ball with the transfers and not been distracted by the stupid stadium mess or had Redknapp rotated the squad a bit more, then I still think that we could have taken a top 4 place.
5th and a QF in the CL is nothing to be sniffed at though, especially when you think that Liverpool have gone from European Champions to having no European football at all in short space of time.

Leonardo's right to mention Everton's dire post-4th season, too.
They crashed out of both European competitions in 4 games, the FA Cup in the 4th round, the Carling Cup at the first hurdle and were starring relegation in the face at one point, til they picked up and finished 11th.
It'd be interesting to see what Moyes could do with proper backing, though.

We need to hold on to who we want and make those one or two extra investments that just give us a little more options

The problem for any Chelski manager is that club's owner. Chelsea took a dip after Ray Wilkins was sacked. One can only assume that Ray told the Russian where to stick his interference and suffered the consequences. I really cannot see Harry putting up with that kind of interference. And can you really see the Russian allowing Harry to go on TV and gob-off the way he does about the club and about players? Both seem like dreadful control-freaks to me. It's why the Russian always buys yes men, and why Chelsea never seem to quite maintain any kind of impetus. It's as though as soon as a manager becomes too successful and the fans fall in love with him, the Russian has to get rid of them so that the attention falls back on him.
