I know it's early, but with the amount of midfielders we have I think 3-5-2 might be worth a shot. Firstly, I want to ask a question. Can we get Tunchev back from Palace? Secondly, if we play 3 centre backs (Bamba, Mills and Tunchev) it will mean we don't have to play too many sitting midfielders. I have said it before and I will say it again, Sven wanted 2 players for each position, so why oh why do we continue to play players out of position because their face fits?! If it is a choice of, for example, Abe and Fernandes, then play 1 of them not both!! Waghorn, although shocking when he came on last night, is NOT A WINGER. DON'T PLAY HIM THERE!!!! Sven go out now and break the bank to get that striker we are all crying out for. If you can't get Maynard, then get The Yak because he WILL score goals for us. On the current showings, I don't think we have the luxury to play Gallagher. Yes, he can be great from dead ball situations, but is that enough for a starting place? If we can't get a striker before the Forest game, then please play Howard up front with Nugent (who was excellent and full of running last night). At least he will hold the ball up. Your thought please
It has to be 442 again. Howard and Nugent up front for Saturday When ever our backs are against the wall Steve Howard never lets us down
Schmeic Pelt Mills Bamba Konch Gally King Wellens Danns Nugent Howard Weale Fernandes StLedg Waggy Johnson 442 back to basics
I think the players will be relieved that they are away tomorrow. I noticed Tunchev has played 2 full games for Palace, let's just hope he comes back soon and solve the problem at the back.
The Palace lot have been relly impressed and are hoping to keep him on for a bit longer...i say we bring the rock back in!
Instead of 3-5-2 what about 5-3-2 with wing backs ------------------------Schmeichel ------------------Mills Bamba St. Ledger --------------Peltier---------------Konchesky -----------------Wellens Fernandes Danns ----------------------Nugent Vassell
Given how crap our defence has been, it probably isn't wise to take a player out of it. I have a suspicion that Sven might play a 4-2-3-1 - don't want him to but is the vogue now. ------------------------Schmeichel ---------------- Peltier Mills Bamba Konchesky ----------------------Fernandes Abi ------------------Danns Wellens Vassell --------------------------Nugent
I wouldn't say the goals we have conceded have been our problem so far bar one. It's the lack of firepower imo. The first Reading goal was just a free header, their second was a bullet into the top corner. Maynards first was unstoppable, the second was a mistake. We wouldn't be complaining if we had scored 3/4/5 like Southampton have been doing whereas their defending leaves a lot to be desired. We need some wingers in soon otherwise we may as well give up. Either that or change the formation and get another striker in. QPR had Taarabt and Routledge, Swansea had Dyer and Sinclair, Newcastle had Gutierez and Routledge, WBA had Brunt and Dorrans... Al the 'football playing' teams have good support and i'm worried that Sven hasn't seen this as a position we are weak in. He has patched up the back four and the centre of midfield brilliantly IMO. There is talent there, when it is gelled it will be cracking. We just need some wingers to support Nugent who (based on his three games) has been excellent.
Couldn't agree more I'm really not too worried about the defence either, I would like Tunchev back as I think he's as good if not better than St.Ledger or Mills. Stick Mills back in the side though and I'm confident we'll be solid. We don't really look like conceding often at all, and the goals we have let in have either been good goals or individual mistakes that we can easily iron out by staying focused and a bit of work on the training ground. They are not the shambolic causes for concern that the goals we conceded under Sousa were. We have a solid back four but the full backs do not contribute to the attack, meaning the need for quality wingers is all the more essential. The most frustrating thing about Sven has to be that he persists with playing strikers and midfielders out wide, he doesn't seem to believe in wingers at all. This will severely hamper us this season and I can't see us being free scoring at any point. Nugent has been very impressive so far and I wouldn't write him off as our goalscorer - if he could just get some service. I would still bring in another striker as none of the others are goalscorers. But the priorities are bringing in wingers and getting the team to play quick penetrating football, and to do this Sven needs to get them playing as a unit first and foremost. It's time for everyone to step up and prove they're worth their wages, starting tomorrow please.
