...Iran Air flight 665 was shot down by the US Navy killing all 290 on board (274 civilians 16 crew) - the dead included 66 children and it happened two months after the US Navy sunk a merchant frigate. The craft was ascending at the time and one of the excuses given by the Navy was that they couldn't tell whether the plane was ascending or descending Two years after the incident, George HW Bush awarded the commanding officer the Legion of Merit. The entire crew were awarded Combat Action Ribbons. Lockerbie was assumed to be in retaliation for this - no-one has ever stood trial and no apology has ever been issued. In February 1996, the United States agreed to pay Iran US$131.8 million in settlement to discontinue a case brought by Iran in 1989 against the U.S. in the International Court of Justice relating to this incident, together with other earlier claims before the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal If you're under 30, I bet you've never heard of this.
Is that yer birthday? I'll be off work that day and unlikely to log in here. I can make one up on the 12th which will be my last day in work for a wee while if you like. I just need to think up a historical event which occured on or around the 12th July. I'm sure somebody will help me out
It's the 25th anniversary of Piper Alpha coming up as well. There is actually a guy that works here who jumped off the helideck on that night. Everyone is to watch a Step Change In Safety video which I've heard is fairly harrowing. The commemorative statue and gardens in Hazlehead Park are being upgraded. Can't believe both these disasters were so long ago.
My grandad is buried in a wee village just south of Aberdeen where he grew up (the name escapes me but he actually grew up in a nearby hamlet called The Downies). The graveyard he's buried in is an old fashioned Kirkyard on a hill overlooking cliffs on the North Sea - about half of the headstones in the yard are Piper Alpha victims - blasted **** out of that whole community and it's a spooky spooky place to go.
I watched the video during a safety day last week. It's called "A Fire in the Night" and it's actually pretty good. Hard to watch but well made. Mixes interviews with the survivors with some animation.
Simple question, Elephant bhoy. Was up in Grosvenor Street last week, Jeebus!! There is some ugly ****ing ****s on that street
Come on, Paul, tell us how much you earn. Remember, you went from £40k to £80k in a matter of weeks, stunning stuff. Must be on at least £150k by now. "Fuxake min, give burnt sausage bhoy whatever he wants, just keep that ****'s acid scarred face out of my office with his constant pay rise requests"
] The man with the toxic spunk is desperate to know how much I earn. Concentrate on your own ****ed-up ***** family.
Says the son of the Invergordon street urchin whose very existence was down to a downy raping his mums arse and sperm leaking through the vaginal wall. "I'm on £80k by the way" What a complete ****ing loser you are elephant bhoy. Face like Simon Weston after an acid attack FFS
