(and firstly an apology, for once I got going, I discovered more and more, so this will be quite a long review) The year started off with a bang Beating the then leaders at home, And while we all rejoiced, Warnock Did what he does best, and that´s moan, And although we couldn´t know then That both we and they would, in May, Pinch both of the automatic spots We knew it was a significant day, And exactly one month further on The 1st of Feb, saw us again, At home, versus Millwall, a game Won with a goal right at the end, A trait which then followed us through At Carrow Road right to the wire, As second half added time proved The spark that ignited our fire, v Reading it happened there too After pressing and pressing all game, Who else but Holt should be on hand To ensure all three points in the frame, But then in a patch with some draws Came two games which I enjoyed so, The first, Barnsley and THAT Crofts goal The ´Goal of the Year´, would you know, A left footed volley so sweet Good enough to grace the PL, And although we weren´t there just yet Belief was growing, you could tell, Then up against Swedish Sven´s team In Leicester on a midweek night, I remember it still clearly now For some quite extraordinary sights, A headed goal by mighty Wes The smallest on the pitch by far, Then a winner by Wilbraham A Who was picked up on Ruddy´s radar, But maybe the strangest of all After Holty had buried the pen, A tribute to Barnett´s wee bairn Being cradled by all our team´s men, And so into April and May Two critical months of the year, It began with Nelson´s return With Scunny, who deserved his cheers, But we were all cheering our lads At the end of a 6-0 defeat, And hoping that Swansea away Would provide us all with a repeat, No luck, I´m afraid but quite soon Came four games which well sealed our prize, And epitomised the skill and fight Our lads had all shown, in our eyes, Four memorable wins including A 5-1 treat at Portman Road, And the start of the Jackson S. show Where he really sparkled and glowed, His late, late winner against Rams To wrap up his hattrick was gold, But nothing compared to the one At Pompey, which caused them to fold, And who can forget those great scenes At Fratton Park that Monday night, So many shedding joyous tears At our return to the top flight, Then after a final league game The reality really did dawn, And the celebrations could begin As the Canaries were again reborn, Which led to the day the whole City Was decked out in yellow and green, To revel in yet one more triumph A grander sight never was seen The first goal in any new tier Is always great when it arrives, And ours came away in game one From Wes Hoolahan, the pint-sized, And although nothing special maybe ´twas a great weight off all of our minds, And gave us and our lads belief And provided some positive signs, Those first wins both home and away Soon followed, as we found our feet, And soon we were showing the doubters That we were quite able to compete, But really the day which I thought Showed we had arrived here for good, Was up at Old Trafford, where we Showed many, much of what we could, And although we lost in the end We gave ´em a really good scare, And set up our trip to Anfield Where again we played without a care, And this time we got some reward With our goal of the season so far, Or one of them at least, I´d say A thunderholt header under the bar, And since then we´ve picked up some points Consistently, both here and there, Especially against those most likely To be a threat later next year, But the most positive sign of all I think, has been how Lambert´s team, Have together grown and improved More than most could have possibly dreamed, And he´s done it in such a new way Defying all Premier League laws, Not going out and spending millions And that deserves all our applause, And players with so much to prove Who he´s brought in most recently, Like Morison, Johnson, and Pilks And Bennett, Naughton, and Tierney, Have all excelled in this new league Along with those already here, Like Holty, Martin R and Wes Still showing they´ve nothing to fear, So we can look forward, I´d say To two thousand and twelve gleefully, There´s no reason why our progress Should all just stop yet, believe me. What an extraordinary summary of our year! RBF, I was right in there with you, enjoying everything you recorded, can 2012 possibly be any better?
bravo, bravo!! another masterpiece - rather fitting for 2011, which it has to be said has been a vintage year for norwich city football club. we may have had better years in terms of results and achievements but in my opinion, 2011 has been the most enthralling, exhilarating and emotional rollercoatser i can remember. my favourite year following the club
