I thought 1904 was well supported considering how many usually sing. Lots of fans wearing badges as well. The campaign isn't a sprint but a long distance run. We've come a far way from the Cardiff City match.
Think the mud slinging has come from both sides to be honest. The fact of the matter is that the protest isn't getting enough backing to cause anywhere near enough of a problem to the owners. I've spoken to loads of different people about their thoughts on the subject on matchdays and they all say virtually the same thing and it's not apathy that could perhaps be turned around by the protesters, it's a definite point of view and reason why they are not willing to protest.
I think the protest was quite good in a pretty bad atmosphere , at least the Villa fans sang a bit . I really hope lou roll is just somebody having a laugh , not that funny but surely not serious
I genuinely tried to put my own feelings on the subject aside today, and tried to gauge whether the campaign was gaining traction or not from the match reaction. Whilst there was definitely a volume increase in singing particularly from the East Stand at the 19 minute mark, it wasn't so noticeable that the campaign could claim great success. In fact, Villa's impromptu singing efforts put our own to shame. And let's not kid ourselves about fan solidarity, most of the Villa fans joined in the "****hole" and "you're not City anymore" taunts. It was interesting for me that the biggest chant of the day from the Hull fans which even got the West Stand singing was the "We are Hull"... which is slightly ironic when it refers to neither City, AFC or the Tigers!
I completely forgot about the 19:04 thing today? Judging by the comments I guess it happened? I didn't notice it at all from the south stand...
Newland I was serious.Last 2 games have had a lot more city fans singing but it will never sound that way to the rest of the stadium til we move into the North Stand.Villa fans some of the noisiest we have hosted.Game was pretty dull to expect massive atmosphere
Villa fans stood and sang for pretty much the full 90 minutes. The first time they stopped was at 19 minutes. I hate to break it to you but football is a bit like pantomime, when they sing "you're not City anymore" they're trying to wind us up. Just like us singing "are you Scunthorpe in disguise". There was more solidarity shown to the leafletters by Villa fans than was shown by West Ham fans. We have a problem making a noise at the best of times. I'm pleased you noticed the volume increase at 19 minutes. Long way to go, lots of small steps and a few big ones now and again. Once again not many leaflets chucked on the floor that I counted and plenty of people wearing badges.
It's almost as if some 'fans' seem to think that making a noise/ singing etc is somehow nowt to do with them and it's other people's responsibility.
Obi, I went out for a cig at half time, and without the masses of people, I could see a whole **** load of leaflets lying about all over the place. It annoyed me to be honest because its something the fans themselves have spent their own money on for people to just chuck them on the floor. I'm guessing the same ones will be handed out at every game so could have been re used? I also think you got the colour scheme completely backwards. The front with the logo should have been orange for visibility, when I looked around I couldn't really see them being held up other than a load of people's arms in the air. One more thing worth considering is if you have any active rioters who don't hold season passes, you should try and get small groups of people dotted around the stadium in every stand to try and get the song going all around. It will probably help with generating atmosphere too. No one anywhere near me ever bothers raising there voice.
The campaign probably died today. A flat response from the fans being appealed to, nothing newsworthy from the "protest" for the media to report on. Clearly handing out leaflets and badges had not been effective enough, neither has propoganda blogs created by committee members and facebook/twitter feeds have seen new followers tail-off the day after launch. Still look on the bright side... we're doing OK in the league so far.
I always look on the bright side. The 19:04 could have been embarrassing it wasn't. Most of the singers sang, plus quite a lot more. The majority of those that don't sing didn't sing. I've handed out leaflets for two weeks, the only adverse comment I had was we've got to modernise. I've had plenty of encouraging comments. One person's meat is another person's poison. A month to prepare for Sunderland, so we'll got plenty of time.
