One of, if not the most cruel game City have been involved in. Everyone remembers 15th May 1984, we needed to win 3 - 0 to join Oxford and Wimbledon in promotion from the old third division.

Anything less than that another team would go up instead. City stormed into an early 2 - 0 lead and then .......

But what happened in January? Did you go? How far did you get?

Remember our coach rolling into Hartshead Service Station as the team coach was just departing. After the obligatory pilfering of stock from the shop, back on the bus, radio on and on to the game. Which is OFF. Because of snow and Hull City coach not being able to get to the ground. WTF.

Got all the way to Burnley by car. Remember a fair few wandering round in Burnley who had come on the rattler.
On the way back saw a fair few vans/lorries around Ouse bridge that had come to grief in wind/ snow.
Always thought the whole episode was a high-risk Appleton master ploy, but could never figure out what we stood to gain by it.

I was also on a coach that got to Hartshead, I remember watching Colin Appleton in a phone box trying to get through to Turf Moor to tell them the team bus couldn't get there because of the snow. Went to the rearranged game which was very surreal, with Blades fans in the ground supporting Burnley, and the Burnley players wasting time when they were losing 2-0.

Was on a coach, going with my mate, and we were looking forward to sitting in the directors box for the game as my uncle was one of their team doctors at the time. As others have already said we also stopped in the service station car park, but i seem to remember our coach was parked next to the team coach.

We didn't go to the return night game so missed out on the opportunity to sit in their directors box. For whatever reason i never got the opportunity to do it again at Turf Moor. The rescheduled game was spent listening to the radio in my bedroom with my mate again, and the ball seemed to be bouncing off everything, instead of going in. There seemed to be goalkeepers laces, daisies on the pitch all conspiring to stop our promotion.

We went, diverted back to Manchester, went to Maine Road instead for my only visit there, Man City v Crystal Palace in division 2, attendance 20,144, went in the kippax and saw Man City win 3-1, went back to Turf Moor in May.
