    My mother had her hip replaced when she was 80 and five years later she is still doing fine.. I hope it all turns out fine for your mam mate..

    My old dear is 75 and in agony with her legs but they can't operate because of her weak heart, she already has a pace maker fitted too.
    If this old lady is fit and healthy enough to have the operation and it improves her standard of life then all well and good for me.
    Age shouldn't really come into it for me.

    Well said BFA - op would not have taken place if she was not able to withstand the procedure -no ageism here -It could be argued more objections for expensive medical interventions when self inflicted probs occur - but that's what we have NHS for
