After results from Saturday 27th February 2016 I will adjust to autos accordingly if we move back into that position. I've shown play-offs as I expect that to be decided before any auto chance we may have. I will only include teams from 7th position upwards at this moment in time. Feel free to discuss...
If we are serious about autos we need to win at Fleetwood on Tuesday and hope for Millwall to do us a massive favour against Wigan.
So interesting following on from the first table and two games further in, that despite the Gills poor run of form there still remains a seven point gap between them and 7th place. Wall being the most consistent form and Barnsley taking 6th spot and dropping Coventry to 7th who displace Bradford, which adds another possible twist in that Barnsley play Wigan on the last day of the season.
Mainly due to Nelson's heroics so I hear, but that luck has brought us the equal number of points or more than most teams with the exception of Millwall over the past two games. All we have to do now is keep that same gap over the next 9 games and we are done, before going into the last two. Walsall, Millwall & Coventry all play away this weekend while Gills are at home. With Barnsley having a good chance of finishing off Southend's hope of play-offs, although if the result does happen to go the other way or a draw it falls nicely in Gills favour.
Over the last 10 games we sit 20th in the form table, even Saturdays opponent's Crewe are above us, so improvement is essential if we are to even hold a playoff spot. I know people are looking at injuries but our form was already on the wane before then, I wonder if it's down to a inability to adapt to the worsening pitches and weather conditions. The next few weeks will hopefully see the weather and pitches start to improve and could give us a late surge in results.
What is going on at Coventry, they just seem to be in total free fall at the moment, lost again tonight (Tuesday). Since their 6-0 hammering of Bury, they have lost 4 straight games on the trot! In the other game Bradford are back in contention having beaten Burton 2-0, that now leaves games even but with 7th place now only 4 points off the Gills, a win for us on Saturday now is vitally important, otherwise it's going to be a nail biting last 10 games.
I haven't forgot these game to go tables but a lot of significant matches tomorrow so will wait for those results to come in first.
Gills for automatic promotion anyone ? Personally I don't think we're performing / on form / good enough ( call it what you like ), to achieve automatic promotion BUT ........ I'm wondering if Burton, with their recent dropped points, might be starting to feel the pressure ? They have a fairly tough looking 'run in' of games - and could easily 'collapse' ( Yes - I'm hoping ). This would leave the door open for Wigan (probably), to take the title. They have a 'reasonable' fixture list ( although at this time of the year ALL clubs will be scrapping harder than ever ). brb - you didn't include Wigan's fixtures into this thread - I will give everyone their last few games; (Away) v Shrewsbury. (Home) v Coventry. (Away) v Doncaster. (Away) v Burton. (Home) v Southend. ( Away) v Blackpool. ( Home) v Barnsley. I reckon that Millwall have an 'easy' looking last few games, and could yet sneak an auto place - Gills have probably the hardest fixtures - but this could be to our advantage ! It would give us some 'control' of our destiny - certainly in terms of protecting our position in the play-off places - by NOT losing to the teams we have yet to play who would want to take our place in the top 6. BUT - if we could have a fully fit squad from which to choose, we could overtake Burton !!!! -- by winning our game in hand over Burton and then (somehow), winning at their ground we'd close the gap to 3 points - which can be clawed back if Wigan beat Burton in a couple of weeks time. Please excuse the stupidity of this post - it has been fueled by a 'sugar rush' from too much Easter egg chocolate.
It is probably more open than one would think especially with the likes of Coventry losing at home last night. All we can do is go out there and put on decent (100%) displays.
I'm surprised that Coventry have sacked their manager ! - their collapse is complete ! - doesn't bode well for Saturday. This is the time of the season when games are 'won' in the dressing room as much as on the pitch !
We owe Coventry.....even the media at the time were touting Coventry as 'big' players and us as the upstarts. I really want to see the Gills do the business on them this weekend. Come on, let's have the prediction league up a bit earlier this week please so that we can get plenty of action on the site.
