Match Day Thread Manchester United (H) 31/08 12:30

I suppose the good thing about being down to 10 men is that our players on the pitch aren't switching off as much as normal when it comes to the dying minutes of a half, since they know they have to be more aware. We could still concede, but feels less inevitable than normal. This would be a...

Match Day Thread Brighton v Saints Saturday 24th August 3pm

Could be some tactical genius, this: if we can't work out who is playing in what position, then neither can the opposition! Scupper all of the plans!

Full backs Valery and Ward-Prowse, I'd guess? Unless it's 2 CBs at the back rather than 3.

Challenge Cup final today on BBC1, with my local "Saints" St Helens (and Warrington :D). We will probably lose because a) it's a final b) we've only lost about 3 games this season and are 16 points clear at the top of the Super League table. Therefore i'm sure a shock victory will be on the...

Match Day Thread Saints v Liverpool Saturday 17th August 3:00pm

We often switch off at the very end of either half and concede - I'm sure it's been noted, it's just how to tackle it. I wonder if they just tone down a little bit not necessarily consciously and we always get made to pay for it.

Can't be too unhappy, though would have been nice without the goal - but just in time for a good team talk. I always feel we're far more up for games against the 'big clubs' and we cope better against teams that don't just sit back. And in any case, we're not really expected to win so we can...

Controversial view: Most football chants are dull and unoriginal

Most people in St Helens just call Wigan fans Pie Eaters rather than by Wigan, I suppose old habits die hard on both sides! :P

Controversial view: Most football chants are dull and unoriginal

While Southampton are my football association with Oh When the Saints Go Marching In, I suspect there's people out there who'd associate it more strongly with Spurs - primarily because they're more likely to watch games involving top 7 sides than ones involving Southampton! Also depends on your...

    The Paralympic Games Rio-2016 Thread

I forgot to bring some blind football highlights (we've not seen it on Channel 4 because GB isn't in it): It's pretty interesting to watch, that's from the first day of the blind football actually.

I remembered somebody posting about their wife supporting Wigan! It's my one local club for anything, so yeah I support them and yes I am (though I don't follow rugby massively)! I don't hate Wiganers like most, though.

Ignorant question - where does the Saints nickname come from, for Southampton? My local rugby team also uses "oh when the Saints" and always has as far as I can remember, but they're St Helens, so I've always understood that one. Is it to do with St Mary's for Southampton?

    Saints Academy Thread

Reading some Twitter comments on the U21 game (I know, terrible idea) and everybody is full of praise for Ward-Prowse in particular, except this one guy who keeps tweeting disparaging comments, calling him a championship player etc. Not just one comment either. He's a Saints fan. :/ I know...

I notice Reed didn't take one of our penalties! Sounds like we generally played well anyway, and they'll have got some good experience. Bit of a shame, though.

Wonder if the 86/88 minute substitutions were to put on stronger penalty takers....

Watching both twitter accounts - Charlton's is updating more regularly, though. (Also a bit quicker.)
