Actually that's not quite true. Our agreement with Sunderland was for two long-term loans of Elmohamady, one running until January 15th and the other from January 16th till the end of the season. That's why they recalled him on exactly the 15th. If we had agreed to take him on a single long-term...

The FA rules are quite clear on this, goalkeepers can be recalled anyway, there's no need for a clause. However, we paid Fulham quite a chunk of money on the agreement they would not do so. Indeed, their own website clearly states

They cannot recall him from a season-long loan as the transfer window has closed. If it was an emergency loan that would be different, but it's not, so stop worrying.
