Hi OddDog Re the German connection. I know that Dad served there in the RAF from 1948 - 50 doing national service. He spent a lot of time talking with Germans about the insanity of the war, in particular the atrocities at Dresden (he read Slaughterhouse 5 to me when I was 9!). When Dad...

Lookinng forward to seeing Frankie issue a carefully worded statement to the effect that he may need to review any special relationship with a trainer who is apparently willing to risk his best horses on unsuitable gtound.

Hang on - this is General Melchett logic. When there's a viable gap, the jockey can't reasonably be expected to predict the duration of its viability. It may well be that, having won the race anyway, they'll bite the bullet, but I don't think this is right. Does Nass still do no-win-no-fee ?

I'd expect Havlin to appeal that, and I think he'd succeed. Grotesque decision - the gap was there, and he was perfectly entitled to put his horse into it.

Agreed, Bustino, and it's not the first time. I think that Frankie was sure that he had it won, and didn't ride his horse right out through the line. My impression is that his confidence in his own judgment of relative speeds/distances is so great that he takes pride in knowing the the exact...

Another ANZAC Day. And the band played Waltzing Matilda. RIP, boys. And an in-memoriam salute to Cyclonic, whose wit and wisdom lit up these pages for so many years.

Always nice to see unconditional loyalty rewarded. Well done, Barney - let us know how much you've won when the hangover fades.
