Has NP officially said that Dawson is the new long-term captain? I assumed it was just a default, possibly temporary, position because he had deputised for Ash in the past.

That's a good point - but I think Ayala would slot in beside Gerrard. Chester would be dropped initially, but it may not take long for him to displace Dawson or come in due to an injury. I think NP has to go for the best players he can and then worry about how to organise things afterwards...
