Everton are a much bigger club than us so there may be that, but I am sure that they pay far bigger wages than us (though it may be slightly closer with the new contracts we handed out in the summer)

 

Not sure that Bolasie only scoring 9 goals has got to do with much. Lallana didnt exactly score like a 1970's Brazil ant the World Cup did he, Bolasie was a winger and casued lots of issues for teams with runs, assists and general play. Fair enough the Stoke players have been at bigger clubs before, but so what, they still keep them. And Everton were a bigger club than us, is running the current business model going to bridge or overtake that gap?

 

OK, big chances created (which is bigger than just assists, because assists requires the person on the end to put the ball in the net). In his three PL seasons for Palace, Bolasie created a grand total of...wait for it...16 big chances. 16!!!

I don't really care about what stat is to be used. I'm trying to say that I don't think Bolasie is as good as you are making out, and certainly not good enough for someone like Liverpool or Man Utd.

 

Well, I wish we had signed him then How many games was the big 16 over? Add that to his 9 goals and it may not be too bad (I suspect you will prove it was bad!)

To be fair - would he have created more chances in a 'better' team than Palace? Maybe not, he is a 'Zaha' kind of player and he didnt do well at all in a bette environment - maybe youre right, although I suspect the real answer is a bit of lots of things...

I'd suggest there's some truth in your second part. Just 14 PL games into his Everton, and he's already created 8 big chances: 50% of what he did during those 89 games for Palace. But Everton had to pay £25m - £30m for that (and still just the one goal so far). It's no surprise to me that a bigger club than Everton didn't want to take that chance on him. Especially not at the age of 27. Much better to sign someone who you really feel will can flourish on the bigger stage. Which brings me onto the pacey, tricky wide man who we sold in the summer. In his two years for us (67 games), Mane (at three years Bolasie's junior, and with no previous experience of English football), scored 21 PL goals.

Mane v Bolasie is no comparison in my mind.

 

Bas Dost who we were linked with in the summer has scored 7 in 8 games for Sporting CP and only cost €10m rising to €12......kinda wish we took the gamble instead of Sporting.

 

Oh, totally, and Liverpool paid much more for Mane due to that 'ready' ability.

 

Will Van Dijk be a big miss when he joins a big club?

Exactly, even Stevie G deliberately slipped over in that loss to Chelsea - even he could bear to hear those scally's bang on about winning the title for years. Still, at least you have the 70's and 80's to dine out on
