So to all of you who said Chamberlain will not leave. YOU WERE WRONG!!!!

So now with the 12m (or whatever it is) Nicola can give it straight to nigel and we can get 3 or 4 quality championship players (unlike alex who has only ever played in league 1!

Congratulations to Nicola Cortese for an awesome deal!!

Bearing in mind that the lad wanted to go rather badly, and that his father wasn't going to pipe down about it, and that Arsenal seemed quite determined about it too, I think it was the best thing to sell him on. We want players who want to play for us, not forever looking over their shoulders at whoever the scout is in the crowd. Plus, I think we royally shafted Arsenal to get him off us, and that's down the Don and his hard dealing. Everyone wins in this one.

Point well made, agree entirely, he wanted out, he got his wish, and we got a truckload of cash.

Good idea - He wanted to go and we only want players who want to play for Southampton FC. We also got a really good price for him, which can be re-invested, if NA sees fit to do so.

Would have liked to see such a promising young player develop at Saints, but once he started angling for a move I wanted him gone under our terms. The players are always going on about the great team spirit at the club, we don't need that undermining. Once he'd become an outsider..shift him on. Arsenal originally offered 5 million plus add-ons, Nicola Cortese wanted 12 million up front. What did we get:according to Sky/BBC 12 million plus add-ons. Great work Nicola. We've lost a player we would have liked to keep, but who wanted to move on. Nicola showed we are not a little club, can't be pushed around and we got our price.

It is obviously the best deal we could get under the circumstances, he didn't want to be on the bus and had his head turned by a luxury coach (although his journey may turn out to be a long one!). I hope that NC gives NA some of the money to help him achieve his transfer aims for this transfer window. I like the look of the Jay Rod and Danny Fox deal as they will improve the overall quality of the squad and I hope we get a quality Centre Back too.

He hardly played in the run-in at the end of last season or on Saturday, yet we have won 7 in a row. That shows that we can do very well without him, so £12 million plus for a 17 year-old who has not played above League One is a fantastic deal. Don't get me wrong, I'd've loved him to stay, but in the end it was a deal that we would have been stupid to turn down.

    Excellent idea.

Wasn't committed after Arsenal came in for him and we have pocketed a lot for a player never proven above L1

All along I just couldn't believe that anyone could be stupid enough to pay £12 million for a player untried above League One. I still think that, and my respect for Nicola Cortese as a businessman has reached new heights.

We will obviously be investing maybe £4 - £5 million straight away and keeping the rest for January/next summer/emergencies etc. Our first priority should be a CB and then a striker who can play wide as well. If you look at our forwards and attacking midfielders they all move around so much it's hard to know what position they are supposed to be in!

Could not give a rats ass about him now same as i dont care about any player that's not in a Saints shirt, why did'nt his twatty old man take him to Arsenal years ago. Well pleased with the deal and NC but i would of told the lad if he wants to play in the prem "pull your head out of your arse" and in 40 odd games you could be.

It wasn't our decision to sell him. Thus this poll is null and void.

He wanted to go. He made that VERY clear. I have little respect for him after going public to gain his move. I wish him no luck - he doesn't need it if he's as good as he thinks he is.

I'm happy we've sold him, he didn't want to be on the bus. As a result of selling him, we have a shedload of cash.

Spot on ! His "Twatty old man" has sold his own son down the river for his own gain, I`ve been told that the Skate T**t has ponced himself a job on the youth setup at the Arse as part of the deal. If true ? Shocking !!!

It was good business by NC and NA.

No hard feelings. I wish him well at Arsenal, but how will he feel after 2 years warming the bench, getting a 10 minute run out and an occasional Carling Cup match?

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Rich, with a WAG, and bored sh1tless watching the first 11 from the bench.
