I've always said I'd be happy just being in the PL. But then something happens like you beat Inter Milan or Arsenal in a cup and you start to believe again. Then you remember you sold all your good players and replaced them with people from relegated sides and you're actually a mediocre team.

    It's fine though, never mind.

Well that was a let down - I actually said to my wife it would be 1-1 before the game and they would score first near the end...I'm so glad I got that right.

I on this form I cannot even see us scoring past Liverpool in 180 minutes of football so unless we're hoping for two 0-0 draws and a win on penalties I forsee a lot more disappointment before the season ends. If we play cautious against last night's oppos how are we going to handle a dangerous attack-minded and very capable Liverpool?

In football terms it is actually quite scary - I hope it won't be embarassing.

I don't mind people slagging the team off on here, after this is a place for discussion and as long as it's not overboard then I think it's fine. What really pisses me off is the lack of support in the ground. I was as gutted as anyone else when they scored but I feel like I was the only one in the chappel trying to gee the players back up. Leave the moaning till after the 90, for large parts of yesterday the atmosphere was flat as a pancake.

The trouble with comparing the team last night to the team that 'tore' apart Everton, is that we won that game 1-0. And were pretty fortunate Everton didn't score. So although the performance in that game was much better we did only win 1-0, I hope people haven't forgotten that. We all now know that we will be blessed with a lot of 1-0s, 1-1s this season.

Last night was just the same story as against Watford at home/Sunderland at home. Not good enough.

Virgil looked distraught at full-time, stood in the centre circle, as other players disappeared off.

Have read all the posts before commenting. As a Saints fan of nearly 50 years it's too late to change teams, so I have to put up with the good, occasionally, the bad, occasionally and the dull, usually. I do get fed up but I don't think I ever resort to abusive language against posters, team, manager. Ok the word donkey sometimes gets aired. Too many 'fans' use abusive language as everyday talk so don't think it is out of the ordinary or wrong. The squad is not great, the manager is trying to field teams in 3 competitions, so we will mess up at times. Every team does. My son in law is happy as a Boro supporter that we are on a downward spiral. Sunday is a chance to help grandad have the last laugh. If we don't win, then life goes on, nobody died. We are still in the Premier league, a long way from Carlisle. Here endeth the second lesson. Amen.

I think part of the problem for Claude is that in his public face he's not someone it's especially easy to warm to and has a heavy accent - sadly that means some of the more 'basically brained' feel that gives them license to pick on the fact he's foreign as a point to leap upon.

To a lesser extent the same happened with MP when he conducted his interviews in Spanish (though moreso from fans of other clubs as we were winning).

It's very sad, but actually I think we have less fans of that persuasion than many other clubs.

Agreed, I was in the Northam/Kingsland corner and there was no support at all ... just a "he's ****", "he's ****", "**** off to france claude" and then booed off at FT. I stayed till the last possible second applauding my team because, contrary to what a lot of fans would think, they did try last night and it just didn't work.

Chanting for Fonte mid-match when he wasn't playing was bang out of order too.

Dispite the result last night, I thought Virgil, Maya, Oriel and Steve all played well. I thought that Yoshida bloke looked a lot like the fella who was useless and didn't deserve to play a while back. Any relation?
