precisely why it gets binned off by so many I suppose <laugh>

Losing a cup game hurts, but relegation could ruin a club for decades

Historically the fa cup was not won big a top 4 style big club. it was normally won by a safe midtable club like utd or arsenal... this is why they had the record after all.

It wasn't b teams then it was just teams who were safe put more effort in.

Today its just more obvious that clubs change the whole team.

Imo southampton and everton, stoke and bournemouth should be going all out in the cup cos theres no risk of relegation nor achieving in league

It's funny really, everyone speaks of the FA Cup as being this great competition etc etc until it comes to doing something about it when it's their turn to play. Out comes the B or C team. I was going to say if playing a minnow but that's not necessarily the case these days. Those teams can just as easily come out for another "big team" who equally will play their B or C team making the fixture a bit of a farce. It's only when down to the last 4 do real teams begin to appear. It's a bit sad that it's all to do with that sacred cash cow they all bow down to in the Sky or rather that is SKY. Owned by the TV rights is what it truely comes down to. A genuine question but aren't you all fed up with being unneccessary to your club anymore? They don't need you to turn up they get all the revenue they want or need from one source. With that scenario all the tradition that ever was goes with it. What makes me sad about it all is clubs like mine strive to become one of you and most of the supporters who are still their club strive with them. Turkeys voting for Christmas in real terms. If we make it through our replay can you ask that nice Mr Klopp if he will put out his No.1 team just for that game please.

It's what called being realistic. When you have several competitions at the same time or overlapping, a club however big has to manage its resources. First it will be stupid to expect the manager to play its first 11 in every competition. So there will need to be a ranking: which one is first priority?

    For example:
    Premiership
    Champions league
    FA cup
    Europa
    League cup

With two matches in a week can a club play its top players all the time? Do you introduce a mix of top players and promising youngsters? With this titration you could reach the semifinals if you are lucky not to meet a big gun but then if you are really serious about winning that trophy you will need to play your best teams in the sf and final. Otherwise there is no point playing in that competition.

Or like Arsenal you play a very inexperienced team right at the outset in the league cup and move out of the competition early .

From a fans point of view can't argue with your point, but from a clubs point of view ie financial it's a dif argument sadly.

The bigger clubs are expected to play in a lot of comps, and that's not even factoring int games and even worst pointless int friendlies where we all worry about our key players coming back injury free :steam:

i agree if you look at it two ways though.

    1. a league 2 side is expected to play 46 league games, league cup from 1st round, fa cup from 1st round.. that two bob cup... like.... thats as many games so what is the top team whinging about

    2. a top side wants to win things not just compete. in la liga they play as many games but set the tournaments up so that a team can play cl first the copa then cl again. in england its all over the place. they have comps all over the place and no winter break either.

So bascially theres a bit of preciousness involved imo but there is also competitive reasons why you have to balance games.

IF the premier league demanded that teams come into FA cup Later and League cup later. and have those tournamanets set up with no replays and running only from december to feburary when there no internationals and no europe peopel would go mad in england.. but if england wants a european champion they will need to do this.

you'll have to make do with alexander arnold, ejaria, woodburn, mingolet, LUCAS, klavan, moreno. You won't get a sniff of a top player... but you might win the game and play someone who will got to your place and play someone.

You think I started watching football when I was 20?
No, you're wrong. I'm not giving away the real answer though, because it's fun seeing all the guesswork.

Liverpool's FA Cup third-round tie against either Newport County or Plymouth Argyle at Anfield will kick-off at 1.30pm GMT on Sunday January 8, 2017.

League Two clubs Newport and Plymouth will meet in a second-round replay at Rodney Parade next Tuesday to decide who faces the Reds.

    UPDATE from LFC webstie here:

FA cup is on BT sport so.... VERY early start for the poor plymouth ****s to get here.... no thought of them obviously from tv guys.
