Sorry but Tettey = impetus, thrust, penetration and ball retention is close to zero. Mulumbu, Dorrans, Howson and/or Thompson (if both / either are fit) in preference please!
Giving the players who got mauled by Brighton a 'chance to redeem themselves' proved that!!! I'd have to agree with ILD re no Tettey.
I wasn't advocating Tettey, merely pointing out that it was a possibility. Pritchard is great going forward, but he's not great at tracking back when the ball is lost, though he did do that effectively at times against Brentford, so perhaps they have been working on that with him. In any case, playing in the number 10 role makes that less essential. It would still be a risk to play without a holding CM away from home, however, and IMO, Tettey is at his best when playing alongside Howson (much like BJ used to be), as he can lay the ball off to Howson to take it forward while Tettey concentrates on breaking up opposing attacks. If AN decides to bring back Klose alongside Bassong in defense, however, it may be less necessary to play a holding CM. These are just some of the tough decisions AN will have to make.
No No No Tettey..... With Pritchard pushing us forward the whole team played higher up the pitch, pushing the opposition back into their own half. Howson was a relevation simply because we/him played attacking football. No No No Tettey. No no no no!
I'm beginning to think that you don't want AN to pick Tettey, ILD. There is a big difference between playing at home and away, though. Again, I'm not advocating choosing Tettey, but merely saying that it's another option, particularly away from home.
No there isn't...a number of teams have came to our place and attacked us and we didn't cope very well. This is Barnsley we're taking about, we don't need a negative defensive midfield. It almost seems as if you're advocating going there for a draw! We need wins to make up for the points lost! WHY change a team that for once looked like and performed like a team?
I agree with ILD. With our defense, the best form of defense is attack. Keep Tettey out of the side and we have a much better chance of keeping the ball and using it well and quickly which makes it wholey harder for the oposition to control the game.
'Nuff said!!! It's not 'rocket science' - if we're attacking the opposition more, then they can't attack us and so put our leaky defence under unnecessary pressure!!!!!
Can I point out that what I actually said was: "I'm not advocating choosing Tettey, but merely saying that it's another option, particularly away from home." I do, however, think that away games are different. We've lost 5 games away from home and only 2 at home, to Preston 0-1 and Leeds 2-3, so I presume that it's Leeds you're referring to ILD. I wouldn't mind starting the same 11 at Barnsley but I'm sure there will be some on here calling AN 'naive' if he does so and we lose.
I'm more likely to be calling AN 'naive' if he makes more than 1 or 2 changes and we lose. I'd love to see the same starting 11 (assuming Pinto is fit), but I'm sure our excellent manager has other ideas and he'll come up with outlandish reasoning as usual to back up his changes.
I haven't rated Tetty for over a season now. I'd much rather sell him, and keep playing Thompson, and as I said before, maybe Godfrey more in a similar role.
Neil needs to put faith in the starting 11 that saved his job last week , he did it with the side that sat down and gave up at Brighton . The squad rotation excuse or playing defensively away from home excuse doesn't work any more .
