Walcott was 5 up front and upto 12 in add-ons...though I swear we settled for less in the end cos needed money (like Bale). Would like to know how much is upfront though, not sure I like how the club statement emphasized(sp?) how big the deal was, as now in this window whenever we enquire for someone, their price automatically doubles.
Whatever, the speculation must have been a bit unsettling for the whole club, what will happen to Puncheon now his nemesis has gone, turn over a new leaf perhaps as no one seems to be rushing to take him on.
I know a lot of people are upset about him leaving; however whilst I know he is unproven I think we all know he has the ability to make it at the top level.
Some of it, but probably not all. We've seeminly been after a CB all summer, and we now need another winger (can't rely on Holmes' fitness). So that's two new signings with the money hopefully. We may go even further than that now, and decide to improve other areas of the side, but that's nothing more than speculation.
Walcott transferred to Arsenal on 20 January 2006, for a fee of £5 million, rising to £12 million depending on appearances for club and country The original fee was payable by instalments – £5 million down, £5 million based on club appearances and £2 million based on England appearances – but was revised to a total of £9.1 million by a compromise settlement agreed on 31 March 2008.
"I'm proud to be joining Arsenal, but I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Southampton for their help and support during the early part of my career, for which I will always be grateful." He also said that on the arsenal website admittedly he should say that and owe us at least that much. But he didn't have too, and I think it was a nice touch of his so for the price we're getting im willing to wish him well and good luck in the future!
Now he's gone, some saints fan seem to hate him! It's been coming for a while, £12 mill for a player thats only played half a season in league one seems amazing business by NC. Honestly, I wish him well still, could become a great player one day... can't see it happening as quickly just sitting on the bench (if lucky) for the next season or so at Arsenal though when he could be getting constant play time. And look at our result against leeds! We can cope perfectly well without him. Nothing to worry about. Good luck AOC, saints should be in the prem in a season or two and he'll be still on the bench at the gunners.
It's a tricky one to read, because Bale was £10 mill & Walcott £12m and Jones was £9m, but the Bale & Walcott deals were all depending on this and that and we cashed them both in early. This deal sounds like a flat fee and could be £12m still to be well above the championship record. What is the championship record?
Defo need a winger now. Someone with pace to replace Chambo, like Watt who was on loan to Leeds before??
From what we have seen of Cortese, that wont work with him, he is not shy of walking away from a deal that isn't on his terms, no matter how good the player is. If, as is suggested, we are getting 12mil up front, it only goes to show what a sharp businessman he is. I think he deserves our faith that any deals he does will be right for the club.
