I just looked up your 'illustrious' European record. From '78-79, until 2010-11, when you made it into the EL, you made it into Europe twice in 32 yrears. Pretty good until you realise it was as the Fair Play champions. Despite all the money you've wasted, we finished above you last season and have won 2 more European trophies than you'll ever manage because you're not winning the CL, are you?
Simon Stone BBC Sport Manchester United's Europa League game in Odessa against Zorya Luhansk tonight is set to go ahead after a pitch inspection this morning. United manager Jose Mourinho complained about the rock hard state of the surface amid freezing temperatures in Ukraine.
Only surprises me a little. We're pretty good at possession, all we need now is to figure out how to turn possession into penetration and score more goals!... Then we might start getting somewhere in Europe.
Absolutely, don't know why Poch isn't playing the lad more to be honest. He's looked promising in a number of his cameos now, when he came on against Chelsea the other week he looked mustard and yet that wasn't enough to get him any time against Swansea. Last night would've been a good opportunity to give him a start but he came on again and done well so hopefully he's pushing Poch for more chances. His pace and directness is something that we don't really have with perhaps Sonny aside so it'd be good to have more of that at times, the tricks and skills don't always pay off but eventually it forces defenders into a state of panic and it'll eventually open up opportunities for him or team mates. Could be a top player in time to come.
I've seen a lot mentioned about how this was Akinfeev's 43rd consecutive CL game where he failed to keep a clean sheet - yet very little mention of the fact that Arsenal were the team he last kept a CL clean sheet against. Here's some possession-based pornography for everyone
Well more often than not Son shows signs of being utterly brainless, yet he plays much more often than just 20 minute cameos.
Congrats to Citeh for taking 5 consecutive seasons before they topped their CL group. Similar congrats are waiting if you have even beaten any CL defending champion in the group stages. <Take a bow, son>
If football used the possession/territory stat gathering that rugby does (pitch divided into four quarters etc) , IMHO you would see a more damning statement of Spurs passing game.
I tend to agree with Spurlock on this one. Son and GKN strike me as being excellent 'impact players', whereas Lamela, Alli and Eriksen are the type who ideally need to start a game and slowly work their way into it. It isn't a bad thing - last season beyond Chadli we didn't really have anyone who could come off the bench and turn a game around. It was crucial that we replaced him and to be honest I'm not yet sure that we have.
I'm afraid that after wishing me a Happy Birthday via video message, Sonny is now fully exempt from any form of criticism, even if he scores 3 own goals in a single match . All seriousness I do actually like him, he does drift out of games a bit too much, somewhat Nacer-esque but his pace and skill along with eye for goal make him a great option to have. Think with even more time he could become one of the best in the Prem in his position. I'm predicting 15 goals this season for him.
Was his greeting in Korean ?? If so, he may have said : I am going to come round your house and cook all your pet dogs.
Haha sadly not, though my mate did say he had trouble initially pronouncing my surname (Saunders), was saying along the lines of "Fornders, Flaunders and Saunas" . Pau Lopez is with him in the video, he was also meant to say it but seemingly bottled it, then proceeded to just laugh at Sonny.
As per usual, while the media are pondering why we fielded a full-strength team last night, not one of them has considered the reason: because we had little choice, which really isn't that difficult to work out when you look at the reasons why Kane: Janssen is injured while, with Lamela out, Son starts in the attacking trio - so unless we wanted to give Harrison a start, Kane had to play Wanyama: Dier was starting at centre back, and as Wanyama is our only other DMF it really shouldn't need explaining why he started Vertonghen: with Dier having to fill in at the back due to Toby's injury we needed a senior centre back, which is what Verts' role is Rose: Davies is injured Dembele: ...oh wait, he didn't play, but don't let that get in the way of a good Narrative
Perhaps they ought to also consider : Because Pochettino wants to get the same kind of winning sequences going that kicked in exactly 12 months ago and made us the last team who could stop the eventual PL champions.
