Like most of the lads I expect to lose by the odd goal although I think the speed of Gyan and Sess might take you by surprise and I'd love to come away with a point. I have Liverpool down as 'most improved' team this year - 4th (or at least 5th for sure). For us a solid 8th place would make me happy and show progress.

Caroll is interesting as he certainly will be 'up for it' and he likes to throw his weight aound... should be interesting to see how we handle him.

Carroll needs to control his temper on Saturday. Our last game against Valencia he should of been sent off for losing it. If it was a premiership game he would of been sent off for sure <ok>

I think it will be a good game, was a cracking game a their place last year and we were so unlucky with that free kick. I think Liverpool will be strong this season and Suarez to me looks real quality, I am thinking on having a tenner on him for top scorer this season.

Quality thread, lads - Keep it up! <ok>

I think it'll be a close and exciting game. I expect both sides to be very attacking and there should be chances galore. I think we might just edge it by one goal, but I could equally see a score draw. In the first game of the season, with our new additions still to fully bed in, I'd be happy with anything but a loss. Might expect a win as it's a home game...but it'll be close, I think. :)

BB, FYI: Henderson from Sunderland ('Mackem'); Carroll from Newcastle ('Geordie'); Downing from Middlesborough ('Smoggie' / 'Smog monster').

Do any of you think if aquilani isn't played (hope he is!), and assuming meireles is rested as he's recovering, Spearing will come in with Lucas as DMs with Adam playing in the AM position?

Nice to see a thread with decent, intelligent comments for once. I'm used to them being infested with WUMS playing the 'it's just banter' card! <doh>

Sunderland have a chance of getting a result if Wes Brown doesn't play. If he does, then there chances will decrease significantly.

If Bramble plays and is up against Caroll it will be touch and go who is sent off first.

I hope we don't see a debut from carroll like joe cole who was so excited that he was wreckless and that sending off set the tone for him for the whole of the season, along with injuries and babies it seemed.

I'm shocked that Carroll has remained out of trouble so far at Liverpool...Kenny must be doing something right with the lad!

Don't be misguided by the Budweiser, light, Miller, coors crap. That is all piss and their awards they say they win is because no one else enters those contests. It is like being the smartest in a class of 1 and all that.

The small local brews you find all around are top notch ( Dog fish, Anchor, Full sail, Yuengling to name a few) is where the taste is at. These are also full flavor and all that.

Lets just hope it's a good game with a decent ref, no stupid sendings off and definately no bloody beach balls.

I'm pretty sure both teams will take a little time to bed in the new signings although as most of them have prem experience then maybe won't be such an issue. Both teams have bought really well over the summer IMO so should be a really good game.

I'm going for a 3-1 to the mighty reds mainly because home advantage first game out always creates a certain extra atmosphere and a buzz for the players.

Suarez hat trick with 3 Downing assists will do me nicely <ok>

Can we add no 'free' goals due to an inept referee classing a defender blindly rolling the ball back to a keeper to take a free kick as the ball being in play to the list.
