Murder: Woman held following death of female at Darlington house

A MURDER investigation has been launched after the body of a woman was found in a Darlington house on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman, in her 40s, was found at a property in Louisa Street and was declared dead at the scene.

A 43-year-old woman from Darlington was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

Police officers were called to the address just after 12.30pm after being alerted by the ambulance service.

Detective Superintendent Dave Ashton said: “I can confirm a murder investigation is underway after a woman died in a house in Darlington this afternoon.

“We have one person in custody who is being interviewed by detectives.

“Local people can expect to see an increased police presence in the Louisa Street area over the coming days as my officers work to piece together what happened.“

The street, off Eastbourne Road, is currently cordoned off with a police van situated at either end.

Part of a service road is also cordoned off and investigators have been taking photographs at the scene.

Earlier a police car and two ambulances were visible at the scene.

The Northern Echo has received several calls from residents nearby.

One said: "I live on the corner and the street is all cordoned off. There is lots of police activity.

"It all began about an hour ago."

Reporter Alexa Copeland said the scene was now quiet and a single officer was stood outside a house halfway down the terraced street.

She reports that two upstairs windows in the property at the centre of the investigation have been broken.

The road was closed at around 12.45pm on Tuesday afternoon and the scene was expected to remain closed to the public into the night as investigations continue.

Residents of neighbouring houses are being allowed through the cordon by the police.

Just round the corner from me. Mental. Would it be inappropriate to go and get my mug on the news?

There's a bloke who I bump into at family or community celebrations from time to time called Rick.

He always has a pair of blue flaired jeans on and a pair of patent 'croc skin' black **** flicker winkle pickers on.

I have uncontrollable laughter every time. He looks like an absolute shambles.

One of the first times I was arrested I asked to be let out of the cell to make my 3 minute phone call. Didnt realise my mate had been lifted as well and he's shoes were outside his cell. Size 12 black n white winkle pickers. F*cking hell they were long enough to be continued.

Btw my 3 minute phone call was to ask our boy to record the boxing on the VHS video. Coppers face was a pic. I'm sure he thought I was gonna call a solicitor.

The Geordie Cobbler, was a shoe shop for the glitterati, in Silver Lane, an allyway between Northumberland St. and the Big Market. Once a trendy shopping location, still is I suppose <laugh>.
