I was having a good day 'till somebody mentioned that name - Capello.

Now I have to admit that I am most certainly a club before country man but Capello is useless as a national manager. You cannot expect to play a tournement with palyers who's culture you do not understand. As many have said above, all the England manager has to do is pick the best English player available for each position - irrespective of the club they play for. Then you have to understand what makes them tick. That's where Capello falls down.

Our footballers come from a culture in which they expect to relax with a few drinks after the match and to party if they win. It happens in all UK sports (Rugby, Golf, Cricket, even Athletics). It's part of his job to allow but control those sessions. Now I don't think 'Arry is a good manager but he does understand the culture - in the same way that 'Tell did.

As for this game against Holland. It's just plain stupid. Is any player going to take the chance of injuring themselves right before the start of the season? You can bet your bottom dollar that every club manager gave explicit instructions not to come back injured. England will learn nothing from this match. Complete and utter wste of time!

but back on topic, I think it will be a good game. Must say I am worried about Gyan and Sessegnon pace. Just hope we play like we did against Valencia, wanting to keep the ball, let Sunderland work hard defensively so it doesn't really give them a chance to get into a groove and get players like Gyan, Sess, Wickham if he plays to get too many chances.

    think we'll line up with

    ....................................... mig...................................

    ......... elmo .......... brown ........ ferdinand .........bardsley

    .........larrson.........catts .............gardner ......... vaughan

    ...................................... sess...................................

    ......................................gyan....................................

with the current players available fancy an entertaining first game of the season with liverpool nicking it 2-1
although if we manage to add a quality left sided player we desperately need could see an end to end 2-2 with us maybe even nicking it 3-2

on a bum note feel the scum will beat an arsenal team struggling with injuries and want away players sorry lads

I also think a lot of people are forgetting we have a few Geordie's in the team who are going to be well up for this game. Downing will want to do damage, and carroll we know loves to beat Sunderland. hendo will be buzzing to play but think he will be a sub for Kuyt or possibly Aqua (maybe doubtful though).

Carroll is the only Geordie out of the players you mentioned.

ya, sorry bout that, got that mixed up. Actually thought geordie was the common term for all but thanks for informing me on that! Either way, they all will be up for this game, always that extra cred when you beat a team you don't like/used to play for.

Huge Downing fan personally, i'd have loved for him to have come back here, £20million was too much, but if he scores 5-6, and creates 10-12, he's worth every penny.

Ah, all the local colour. You can't blame a yank for not understanding the subtleties of English parochialism.

Carra comes from Bootle and hence is not proper Scouse - but I dare you to tell him that. Gerrard comes from Huyton so the same applies.

Ya, the American card came out on that one. Sorry about that. We have that here actually but it is more of your state or city. Where I love now you go south, you are not a cincinnati, you are from kentucky even though you might actually be closer to Cincinnati living in Kentucky than people who live in Ohio are.

Carra was a Toffee weren't he?

Just makes his service, passion and loyalty to Liverpool even more incredible.

Him and Gerrard on Goals On Sunday few months back were superb, a credit to football and proof they aren't all money grabbing ****ers.
