Not to mention his ability to pick out Cedric or Bertrand (or whoever) with one racking crossfield pass, to get them in behind. Rather than it taking us two or three passes to get the ball there, giving the opposition time to get across and cover.

Sigurdsson would be my no1 target in January.
Scores into double figures, takes all the set pieces and gets hats full of assists in a struggling team.
    Why wouldn't we want him

Doubt Swansea would sell him though.

He's been my realistic dream signing since before he left for Spurs. To hear that Ron wanted to bring him here last summer, but obviously failed, was quite galling.

But as TLL says, Swansea wont sell. They'd be signing their own relegation warrant. Different story entirely of course should they get relegated anyway - there's no way you can see him playing in the Championship with them. Unfortunately though, we won't be the only club after him. Indeed, in reference to my above point, I'd imagine that Everton will be in the front of the queue. Only if Barkley finally starts producing the goods on a regular basis could I see Everton not going all out for him.

Agreed. I'd take him ahead of Morgan all day long.

He signed a 4 year contract in the summer too. Sigurdsson and Morgan would both be very un-Saints like signings. The only other established PL player transfer like that I can think of is Long.

(Redmond maybe? But he had 12 months left and had just been relegated, so it was a good time to buy)

Did they provide us with stability? Considering everyone knew they were really leaving and gettong less money. Perhaps we should let someone go for zero as a statement that they stay.

    Just a suggestion...

I wonder if Kaka will follow suit, he is highly religious, not sure when his contract is up in the States, but surely they dont need the $$$.

Great gesture by Ronaldinho - always played the game with a smile on his face. Even more so when he played against dodgy Seaman...

Well considering we progressed both seasons I'd say they did provide us with stability and eased the transition of change. Hasn't worked out too badly has it?

Did it really provide stability - interesting point of view.

Players know they will leave (and not blaming the Board or such for that), as they have the control, we have not really controlled much other than got less money. We hardly made a statement, did we. We have progressed yes, which is about good stewardship (Kat/Les etc.), ok recruitment and good team management (MP, RK and possibly CP).

Had we sold Clyne we could have maybe kept Chambers and got double the money for Clyne. Had we kept Clyne and let him leave on a free would likely have meant we wouldnt have to put up with a Cuco. The point I am making here is different situation would have evolved from it and that keeping those at the points doesnt directly correlate with stability when over half the family silver had already been flogged off...

I'd also answer your last point in May, and hope it works out well...

Chambers had a release clause that arsenal met - so we couldn't keep him even if we wanted to.

Whatever, the point was there that them staying and going for less doesnt directly relate to stability.

And perhaps he didnt and the info you have isnt correct, just maybe. Or perhaps we would have tried harder to keep him, just maybe...

Know a person that trained Clyne. He made up a load of ****, as he couldn't admit he just wanted to leave.

Chambers handed in a transfer request as soon as Arsenal came in. He had his agent tell us he wanted to leave and that was it and wouldn't accept staying. He forced himself out of the club. We got as much as we could and got rid as he would have been a disruption.

Fair enough, good info. The point is the club could have handled it differently, they could have sold him a year before, or let him run the contract down. They chose the 3rd option - I was just saying that isnt always the right option and that it didnt necessarily link to stability as the damage had already been done...

Maybe not the right option, but sadly 99% is the only option. Players have too much power.

Totally agree, dont really blame the club,

I was talking to someone today (kids party, one of the parents. He was saying his dad wont watch any football now due to the diving, money, player power and stuff - said its like a totally different sport from 30 years ago...

Didn't Clyne spread the rumour he was only getting paid £10,000 a week?
