Interesting thought...does it/or did it ever make Jenson ponder the 'what if'.Making Button a 4 x WDC?

Not sure about that... As I recall he was pushed more than he jumped was he not?
Nah he absolutely had the chance to stay. Nick Fry publicly accused him of disloyalty for leaving.
I see to remember there being more to it than that. They didn't exactly get his contract squared away early and things dragged on.
“We offered loyalty which we hoped, perhaps naïvely, he would return,” Brawn CEO is quoted as saying in the Mirror. “There is bravery and there is stupidity, and we will only find out which it is next year.
“We believe we made Jenson a good offer – one that was significantly more than he is being paid at McLaren. We are all mystified by this decision. We think he has been badly advised and had his head turned by McLaren’s glitzy headquarters.”
I forgot all about this, and things could have been so different for both Lewis and Jenson. Lewis may have added to his titles at McLaren (and maybe even stayed) and Jenson may have added to his titles.
So Rosberg wins a load of races, Lewis gives a quit threat then all of a sudden he wins a load of races and also a work around his engine penalty with upgraded parts. And people say Mercedes favour Rosberg?

In the fastest car on the grid by miles? Not a hard task is it.Remind me, didn't Hamilton start from the back in accordance with the regulations regarding excess parts which wouldn't have been needed if the originals hadn't failed?

yep, the team favours the teamAnd then he has a engine failure in a race after all that.
Yes of course Merc have favoured Lewis this year <facepalm>
The team favours no one, I truly believe this. Mercedes looks after Mercedes interests, end of. They know one of their drivers will win, they don't care which one, just as long as one wins and the other is second. If anything looks like it will jeopardise a 1-2 they want to step in.
