Brazilian football team Chapecoense onboard a plane that crashed in Columbia. All but 5 people onboard died. http://news.sky.com/story/plane-tho...an-football-team-crashes-in-colombia-10676541
Shocking tragedy. Six survivors named Colombia’s civil aviation authority has confirmed the names of six people who survived the crash - not five as previously reported. The surviving players are named as defenders Alan Luciano Rushel and Helio Hermito Zampier, and Jackson Ragnar Follman, a goalkeeper. It does not name the teams other goalkeeper Danilo who survived the initial impact but is reported to have died of his injuries. The other survivors are named as crew members Ximena Suárez and Erwin Tumiri and journalist Rafael Valmorbida.
An awful situation all round possibly made all the worse by this being a huge season end for a little home town club that has shot to fame and it was their shot at fame. I believe that their Colombian opponents want the cup awarded to them which I find to be a nice touch.
We discussed this tonight with friends in a restaurant. A lovely gesture, and nice, agreed by all. I was a lonely voice. I don't believe honours, Championships, Cup Titles; should be given away. Under any circumstances. Better to cancel the occasion for the year !
It's ****ing sad this. This was a young club who'd made the top flight in Brazil and then qualified for the equivelant of the Europa, from a small town with no ****ing budget, genuine Roy of the Rovers ****. I know planes go down often and we shouldn't see this above all others but this tiny little miracle club won't ever recover and it's a crying shame, and a tragic loss of life. Forca Chapecoense.
According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo is going to donate £3m or $3m to the families of the crash victims. I love that man.
Absolute legend he is mate, many will never admit it. PSG donating £40million as well, above and beyond that, and enough for me to hope they get a CL soon.
The good parts about modern football coming to the forefront now. Sometimes money hasn't killed the game.
I heard that as well. He gets a lot of stick but his heart is in the right place! Fantastic gesture. It's random acts of gesture like this that gives me some hope for the future.
