Me too, Hessle. Born in Hornsea. East Hull for 1st year, Anlaby Common for the next two & then Bedford Rd in Hessle. Penshurst County Primary school & Kingston HS. Moved to Beverley Rd, Hessle, when I was about 7 (opposite Park Ave., so spent most of my subsequent early years playing football, poker & a bit of cricket in the "recca", opposite Darley's. Hessle Old Boys, Kingburn Athletic & Hessle RUFC used to get bigger crowds (it felt like) than City do now Bradbury, Bulless, "Nobby" Clark, Jock Davidson, Billy Bly etc team was my first exposure that I can recall with any clarity. Parking my bike close to BP after riding through the back streets past First Lane, to Pickering Road. Spending my pocket money (from my gran) on 5 Park Drive before getting in for free at half-time ! Little Switz - many an hour spent there, almost wrecking ourselves bombing our bikes down the steep hills and swinging on the ropes someone had managed to tie to those tall trees between the "hills & valleys". Great fun. Went out with a bird who lived in a bloody great big house on Southfield, near the railway Station. We often walked along the foreshore towards Ferriby ( long reeds serving their purpose well ). In those days there were lots of house boats along that stretch of the river bank ( many derelict, but some still occupied). Great days.
Where did you live on Anlaby common, I was down Spring Gardens? Did you know Harry Waudby at Kingburn?
We moved to Bilton grange at aged 11/12, the first day we moved in my mum said go have a look around, I walked onto holderness road and found a football ground, climbed over the fence, it looked a bit run down so I'm thinking it may have closed by then. Brunswick fc I think it was called, no doubt someone will either correct me or agreed. It's a small housing estate now... I wish we had moved to the area earlier, I'd of gone to their matches... My auntie ran the nursery in the church next door, my eldest daughter went there. Went to Andrew Marvell school, we use to have mass punch ups with greatfield, thems were the days......
I don't really understand this, unless you think I should be called Tiger. I don't want to get into all this grammar thing as it is tediously boring. I've never corrected anybody's spelling, grammar, punctuation or typing on here but if you check back, you'll see that your post should have been two separate sentences. For those of you who have a mind for it, Geoff Stokes, who taught me English for four years at HGS, put this on the board: An old gentleman called Grandpa. He then challenged us to punctuate it in at least four different ways so that it had a completely different meaning each time. It can be done. I used it in one of my books this year, so my time at HGS wasn't wasted. That's my last word on it. If you want more, buy the books!

It was a joke, mate. No offence intended. My lack of a personal pronoun to start my sentence was immediately pointed out by Kemps, but in jest, so I continued in jest. Someone then thought I was Shakespeare. Which was nice. I agree about the two sentence thing, but I think I'd have got away with a semi-colon, no? An old gentleman called Grandpa. An old gentleman called, Grandpa. "An old gentleman" called Grandpa. An old gentleman called. Grandpa! Is my grammar good enough for a Level 5?
My gran lived at 3 Spring Gardens, just off the main road, almost next to the EYMS service garage. Spent many a day around there. My sister & I used to walk there from Hessle on weekends, and my grandad & I used to walk to BP on matchdays from there. I do remember Harry Waudby - played centre forward and was a bloody prolific goalscorer. If I remember correctly, he wasn't that tall either. They had some great forwards over that period...Ted Fuller, Pat Northgraves ??
First 6 years in Etty Grove (off Gordon Street, now demolished). Then Parkfield Drive. Though despite this prime location I was always late for school.
I've got quite a bit in common with several of the posters on this thread. I was born in the Hedon Road Maternity Hospital and lived in Hessle until I was 14 - Tower Hill Terrace backing on to the park which we always described as "Over wall". Also went to Hessle C of E (Mr Bramley, Mr Wood, John Chignell et al.) and then to Kingston High from 1960 to 67 (Bill Sykes, Doc Blackburn, Fiona Dunne, Bernard Hicks et al.) We spent loads of time playing in Little Switz and in my early football days I often played against Kingburn - they were run by Charlie Branton at that time and one player for them I remember well was Phil Watson. I was invited to play for Hull Brunswick in the late 60s but, before I could join them, the manager (John Nicholson) moved on to Chilton Amateurs and I signed for them instead. Final coincidence - my Gran's sister lived in Spring Gardens (123 I think)
Mrs Crompton lived at 1 I think and the Randal family lived corner house which must have been 5 or 7. Yes that's Harry, I used to work with him but also played against him. He was older than me, but a prolific goal scorer
