First of all a big Hi to many of the old names from 606. I was on as West Stand Willy. I'm back, not only from Oz but before that from a self-imposed exile whilst Parky (sorry, I know the rules about bad language) did his worst (which I assume was his best). Anyway, great day yesterday. Only downer I could see was B W-P's demeanor. He looked like he was dis-interested as most of the team were last time out. Perhaps it's just the way he plays, time will tell. Impressed by the new boys. What most impressed me was the back four, straight as a die across the line, just as Curbs used to keep them. I guess that's where Sir Chris has learned it from. Great one touch passing and movement, Sir C must have been watching Barca as well. However - referring to the title of the thread - I see the Beeb online have credited Scotties screamer down to Dale Stephens (not in the text but in the result at the end of the piece) and have Dale as joint top league scorer on 2. He deserves it but we know it's wrong and just typifies the Beeb's attitude to the lower leagues, can't be bothered to get the facts correct. Never mind, I've still got a grin on my face!
Welcome back WSW Re BWP - it's the way he plays. He doesn't waste energy chasing lost causes like Waggy will, but will always get an opportunity which he usually takes. If he does nothing all game except score one goal, then that's fine by me.
parky was such a nice bloke. the kinda man you would want to go touring across America with. He'd be so polite and offer everyone cakes. The kind of man that wouldn't object to you going for a large meal at McDonalds, and the kind of man who would tuck you into bed at night, leaving a cold glass of water on your bedside table.
I don't know what your on cafcnick but I don't allow my GP to prescribe stuff like that. I want to remember the pain so that I can enjoy this season even more.
BWP did set up 2 goals on Saturday... thought he looked pretty sharp myself. Sky have managed even better than the Beeb... at least the Beeb corrected their mistake. Sky Sports has a 2 minute highlight package where they comment on Stephens striking from outside of the box... they don't mention who set him up?!?!
I actually thought BWP tried to do too much on Saturday. Dropped very deep at points and as a result wasn't actually in the box much. I'd like him to go back to doing the minimum but just being in the right place at the right time.
I thought he looked happier after Benson came on. Obviously they've played together more and there was that bit of understanding.
What did you think of BWP and Hayes, FHB? I thought they looked very good personally- have very high hopes for them. Benson is still a bit of an enigma for me. Do we want him to drop deep or get in the box, which is where I think his strengths lie.
The Times report today has Stephens down as scoring twice, and they therefore list him as top scorer in League 1. Imbeciles.
I wonder what Powell does now, considering Danny Green is eligible to play. He's too good of a player to leave out of the squad, and will no doubt own that wing, and provide some decent crosses that Benson is used to. On Tuesday, I'd give Benson and Green a start and see what they can do. I still remember hearing John Still say, when we signed Benson, "get him the ball in the box, and he'll score!" Something that we lacked last season. This team, is looking much better than the previous. Still shaky at the back, but I'm hoping that after a couple of games when they gel, they'll iron itself out.
I thought BWP had a very good game and got into a lot of good positions but at the moment Hayes does not look like his ideal partner. He does work tremendously hard but seems to waste a lot of effort,(sorry Franco) maybe trying too hard in his first game. BWP did great for the penalty- I thought he'd lost the ball twice but he kept going and would have scored for sure. I've seen red cards given for that sort of foul. However the Hayes/BWP partnership needs time to develop so I'm sure CP will give it time. I'd also like to see Waggy start a game as striker, maybe in the JPT.
I agree re Wagstaff as a striker. The guy can clearly strike a ball, but fails in the crossing department. Also thought their left back marshaled him too easily.
Of all things said by CP, he seems very stuck on keeping players in who are 'in form'... telling them exactly that. Their is no way waggy wont get a decent amount of time at the least next saturday, he deserves it. Houndal, they let your ugly mug in here ? Verification took it's time eh
They probably took their info off the Beeb as reporters are presently banned from all League grounds over this dispute on what they can report and their refusal to name the sponsers (quite right too). Therefore no match reports in the press unless the journo paid for a ticket. Why pay for a ticket when you can spend the money on beer. No, just totally lazy reporting all around.
