We should have won there last season Syd, anyone would admit that, but then they added Suarez and we couldn't get near him at the SOL.

Avoiding defeat would be a great set up for the derby, i do feel a win is beyond us due to the continued lack of width, even against a sightly weakened Liverpool.

It's a strange one as even though we are slightly weakened if Suarez and Gerrard don't play, we are still stronger than last season <yikes>

I think they didn't like the fact that he made 6 of their defenders look like garden gnomes! <laugh>

EDIT: The goal at your place was something special - he doesn't just make the impossible look possible, he makes it look easy.

We were linked to him before you mate, and i was running around telling everyone we had to get him, then you came in and the job was ****ed!

He is sensational, and he'll be on a high after the SAC, where he was superb, again.

Always rated Agger, shame about the injury issues he carries, i think Aurelio can be got at, only problem being him facing up to Larsson, the slowest player in our midfield.

Kelly was starting to look good pre-injury, i still say we need to try and get Sess square on to Carra, as his pace and trickery will be a major headache.

What are your expectations this season? Do you think top 4 is possible? I still think Arsenal will have a little bit too much, but it's tight as a fishes snatch.

In my opinion when Aurelio is fit he is one of the best left backs in the league. Similar to Agger, such a shame about injuries. Not only is Aurelio good at going forward he is a formidable defender too.

Personally, this season i believe we have enough to get a top 4. Looking at the squads of the top 6 i don't see much better to be honest. A lot will depend on how our new signings can gel. Suarez i believe could be the difference.

I know i might get slated for this but with everything happening at the club with management and new owners etc - i personally think we could be the dark horses for the title <yikes>

This isn't me being anti ex-United players, but with Wes Brown in your team that gives us a massive hole to work into 'cause the lads sh**e. Carroll will easily win every aerial challenge and with improved service from Downing and Adam I can see a big victory for Liverpool. That being said, I do thoroughly expect Sunderland to put up a good fight and it will be a top match to start the season with :) But Wes Brown is easily your weak link.

Glad to hear you have that confidence mate!

I think you need some pace down the right flank, maybe Jordan will be the man, his strength is delivery on the run, he gets swamped out CM, and his dead ball delivery is appaling, but if he gets a run into space, he is a real threat first time delivery, and the lad is a very smart finisher, if you can get him in the right positions, whenever he scores you think, 'why doesn't he get in the box more', usually taken so confidently and smartly, we all wish him the best.

I dunno, i feel you're a bit short, i can't pin exactly where, maybe a Cahill type CB, and a really tough holding midfielder, and you'd be close, just my opinion, Suarez and Carroll will surely get hatfuls.

Hopefully we'll have signed Enrique by the time this game comes round. Otherwise we'll be going into the game with Aurelio and Kelly as full backs. As good as they are they seem to be made out of glass or some equally fragile substance.

Enrique will be a great move, not only for Liverpool, but for the lad himself, Capdevilla's Spain place is up for grabs, the move will surely enhance his chances of making that spot his.

A very good left back indeed, decent going forward as well, and very strong.

    Good points mate.

From what i hear we are still in the market for a CB as well as a LB - as clearly these are the 2 positions we lack depth in. IF we manage to sign a couple more and get rid of a bit of dead wood then i can see very exciting times ahead.

BTW - good luck for this season, i genuinely hope you have a great season <ok>

Cheers, i think we're all hopeful, we'd probably take top 10 again (as long as it was a bit more comfortable), i actuall think we can get past Fulham and Villa this year, i think Everton will pip us to 7th, was nice to see all the Sunday's tipping us for 7th.

The jump from 7th to top 6 is a massive one though, we need to try and hit Europe, so we need to have a real bash at one of the cups.

I'd usually be down for this game, but with moving to Spain in the summer, and the derby the week after, i simply couldn't justify 2 trips home in a fortnight, i know we are always made welcome in Liverpool, by both clubs, and Tranmere as well, fortunately we don't see them so much nowadays!

I think top 4 is what we will get this season, of which I personally think 3rd place. Arsenal have some problems and don't actually sign anyone, but they will always finish up high. People rave about Man city, but their whole team is a mess. Their best player and sole reason they have achieved so much last season (Tevez) doesn't want to play for them and with 9 defensive midfeielders each match and characters like Balotelli I expect them to struggle to live upto the hype and expect Mancini gone by the new year.

Back to topic though, Larsson is a very good player for you (in my fantasy team), as is the guy from Blackpool and with Gyan up front too, I honestly think you will be finishing 6th or 7th this season. I would put a bet on Europa league next season for you, by one of several routes. I think Newcastle will be in serious trouble once they have played you the week later.

I genuinely expect Sunderland to finish top 6 this season, they have come on leaps and bounds from last year. And I expect Liverpool to finish Top 4 for the same reason. Too massively improved squads on Saturday. It will be a very entertaining game :)

I like the cut of yuur jib mate, i'd be delighted with 8th, but we really need European football to take the next step.

Thing is with City, your right, Tevez is a massive hit, but Aguero is some replacement, this lad is an absolutely sensational player, i don't see how they could have replaced Tevez better, Dzeko will come good as well, and if Balotelli sorts himself out, he could be the best of the lot, easily.

I think all they need is a real top class attacking midfielder, a Sneider type, and they will be right there, hate the way they've done it though.

If we manage top 6 I will SOOOOO HAPPY!! But i can see us finishing 8th, maybe 7th. Top 6 is very solid and we'll struggle to break into it.

The real question on the first day of the saeson has to be which side is "more ready"

i don't have a clue how sunderlands preseason has gone or how they look as an organised side.

I know that the sides zeliverbird or jaffa have put are most likely it. Aquilani is a big question mark here, if he starts its a big deal. If he doesn't he's on his way.

Kuyt, downing, carroll, lucas, adam... all certains. The formation seems to be fairly sure as well.

I'd certinly take 1-0 to us right now and be very grateful so that we get started after a stupid international game and squarez just coming back today.

Spot on mate, even 7th is tough if Everton keep their first 11 fit, they have such a wonderful and balanced midfield.

Massive IF for them though, and there back up is piss weak.
