There does seem to be a pattern that most lefty posters on this forum always resort to insults when they cannot express themselves adequately. Did the Swiss not stash looted valuables for the Nazis and turn a blind eye to the genocide?
Now the debate is really deviating - do I have to argue for Switzerland as well now ? Switzerland was surrounded by Nazi Germany, Occupied Austria, Vichy France and Fascist Italy - ie. completely surrounded. Their compromise was to allow some Germans (and others) to stash valuables there - this was the only way they could guarantee their neutrality. But that same neutrality allowed them to become a safe haven for many Jews, and others, fleeing the Nazis, also including British War wounded, who were also stationed there. What was the alternative ?
I don't think that insults are restricted to any one group. You regularly use insults, SH. 'Remoaners' is one that comes to mind. As for genocidal activities, all they illustrate is how very nasty people can become when they feel threatened. Any minority group, whether based on race, religion, political outlook, etc., are vulnerable to people manipulated by a fearful leadership. People living in fear, or suffering from perceived injustice, look for scapegoats.
Seems like our friend is back with his provocative digs thinly veiled with come across to me as stereotypical and one dimensional comments with no discursive element or potential for any sad really.... and so cheap How can you have debate when you pigeon hole the people you purport to have a meaningful dialogue with??
There has been a lot of goading on here. I refer everybody back to BB's post http://www.not606.com/threads/fidel-my-hero.339574/page-4#post-9956211 which has been conveniently unaddressed. Don't believe the hype, they say. I remember Churchill's "History will be kind to me - I intend to write it." Which of course he did and won a Nobel prize for so doing. The transgressions of Britain are important when we look at Castro (if we are only interested in mud-slinging), coupled with our perspective gained from the media. Imagine this was a Russian news piece about the Queen passing away. If they only showed pictures of her falling over, how disrespectful would that be? Read the bullet points on the right: Critics saw him as a dictator Thousands of Cubans living in exile in Cuba His death is celebrated by Cubans in Miami This, with photos of him falling over (he was an old man ffs) and a BBC journalist/stooge persisting with generalised and rehashed defamation, was not the way a balanced or responsible media, that was not in state control, would behave.
Asimov, here is another example of a chummy chum chum wanting to limit threads to anything anti right of centre politics. Must be distraught with the state of lefty causes in Europe at the moment.
You seem to manage rather well to wind people up then resort to insults when your extreme views are exposed. Have you been taught by Canary Dave how to cause carnage on a forum?
That's a start, hopefully you have not bullied him away already. This is a forum where differing views are posted, there is every chance you may not agree with some of them. No need to bring out the insults.
And here is another example of mud slinging. Now I fully realise that the far right is in the ascendancy at the moment. I also realise that you object to anyone complaining about the agenda of the far right. Still, I'm sure your heroes know how to deal with dissent. There is no real difference between the far right and the far left.
Asimov. Posting here as here is where I went too far. I apologise. I was wound up by your seemingly belligerent retorts that seemingly suggest you have greater knowledge and others need to "read up". I overreacted. I apologise for that. I don't apologise for reacting, I was right to react to that, but I overreacted. Sorry. Cologne is right, sometimes the written word, especially when done in almost text-speak, ie quickly typed - perhaps as quickly thought about - leaves its sentiments open to misconstruing. Despite sh's attempts to wind this up into a party-political issue, I have said multiply this is not because of the nature of the politics. I welcome a debate. Genuinely. SH tends to goad, probably in his nature, and it is difficult to debate with him. Anyway. All Hornets together.
BTW have you followed the link to post number 62 on this thread? In terms of debate, I would love to hear your views on that, and my post number 105.
My politics is not of the far right, I am a Conservative, if you had read my posts I am in favour of Fillon instead of Le Pen in France. My political heroes are Churchill and Thatcher. That does not stop me admiring an extremely effective patriot such as Nigel Farage.
Now that is an interesting point........... ideology rules at the margins and the 'wets' and 'liberals' inhabit the middle ground...... The narrative of the (far) right is in the ascendancy at the mo. be it around Brexit, Le Pen or Trump but as noted before what comes around goes around and has done throughout history..... All have a time and a place..... the challenge is to create a better world for us all.....
Wrong again. Asimov first mentioned the Tories in this thread, then the anti Tory rhetoric was started by BB. Try to get your facts correct.
