I can only reply to comments I have no idea what they are going to be or what the format will be

I think I move on quickly from insults
    I think posters know that
I think that's proof that it doesn't matter nor should it
    I think that's what a forum is

This thread is about sexual abuse and to me my theory of the basics of good v evil ... the simplest and oldest of all stories

I have attempted to state exactly what passions and feelings are under the surface ...

I apologise if this has not been clear

I apologise but I have not highjacked anything I do not believe or follow anyone's idea of forum protocol re grammar and format

I rarely go out to insult or attack a poster ... I have done so with Ted in hopefully a comical way as he can take it ... no statergy involved

I come and go on this forum as and when I want to

This is how I see it

You have taken an important thread about child abuse in football and made it about you, what an arrogant prick

why is a fuss being made of this now
He has been jailed three times for child sex abuse

how come no one came forward before

    Who is Barry Bennell?
please log in to view this image

Bennell is believed to have been living in the Milton Keynes area
Woodward, Walters and White all say they were abused by Bennell.
He was sentenced to nine years in prison in 1998 after admitting sexual offences against six boys.
    • Bennell was a youth coach at Crewe Alexandra in the 1980s and 1990s and also had a close association with Stoke City and Manchester City.
    • He has been jailed three times for child sex abuse - including once in America.
    • He was jailed most recently in 2015 for two years - with a minimum term of 12 months - for a historical sexual offence committed against a 12-year-old boy on a football pitch in Macclesfield.
    • Florida Police said he had an "insatiable appetite" for young boys.
    • His crimes were, at one point, the subject of a Channel 4 Dispatches programme.
    • He described himself as a "monster" while giving evidence in court in 2015.
    • He remains permanently suspended from football.

7 other coaches have been jailed for sexual abuse offences since Bennell, 4 of them in the last two years.

First time the media have taken an interest. Probably the tip of an iceberg. As it will be in other areas of life as well. Once the spotlight has moved on from football it will be something else's turn. At least football has the £ to financially compensate victims, not that that is in any way adequate. Any talk of 'ensuring this never happens again' is pure fantasy, whether we are talking about sport, children's homes, community activities whatever. But of course that should be our aim.

I have no idea what the purpose of this thread is other than express anger on behalf of other people. Which is fair enough.

What exactly have you contributed to this thread? More occupied to insult than give an opinion about the story

If it's makes you feel good
    Have it

Good point about the money and I agree football will want this off their doorstep ASAP

Spotlight excellent reference for those not seen the film

No one wants this associated or sticking to them such is the evil of it

So exhausted, frustrated what exactly is left? In my case laughter

Parents and schools have to educate kids at a young age about what is right and what is wrong, what can be done to them and what can't, and perhaps there needs to be a resort in sport like Childline where an apprentice can get professional help and information, rather than suffer in silence.

As to the offenders, I have no idea whether psychiatric therapy would help rid them of these unholy desires, but if not, monitoring them must be the answer.

Some would suggest a more draconian approach would be far more appropriate.

Looking at the role of religious officials in this type of activity 'unholy' may not be the right turn of phrase.

Children should be encouraged to shout out about abuse, but we must also recognise that this will lead to many false accusations.

Abusers are by definition ill, but fall pretty low down my personal priority list for 'help'. Perhaps as Matt mentioned, the option of chemical castration should be offered those who recognise their illness but lack the self control to stop. Hopefully we can do it better than when Alan Turing took this route.

Sure, if they offend they may be banged up. But unless you give someone a whole life tariff, at some stage, they'll be out again, some presumably with the same desires and bad intentions.

I was thinking more along the lines of chemical castration as SB has just mentioned in his post.
Whether or not this behavior should be classed as an illness or is just evil depravity I have no idea, I'm no medical professional. But when you hear week in week out of cuts to funding for essential mental health services these people are the last I would throw money at.

If chemical castration worked, then great, but you cannot force it on an offender and I'm not certain whether, with the drugs used to date, it has been that successful. But I agree its a strategy worth pursuing as new drugs become available.

As to cuts, I see what you mean, but if there is danger to children, it may push these people up the waiting list.

That is a fair and valid point. As for a solution, there was never going to be a quick and easy fix.
