Good luck to anyone that'd even try and sign Kane.

You think Levy played hard ball with Modric and Bale? Just imagine what the man would be like when trying to take the club's poster boy who graduated through our academy, is loved and adored by fans, still only 23, our leading scorer in past two seasons along with Prem golden boot in 15/16 and is likely to go on to become one of the best strikers in world football.

So, who's up for the challenge?

We are in a funding gar right now. We're spending more than we ever will again and all of our incomes aren't rising to keep pace as our existing commercial deals come to a conclusion. Next year we'll have the new kit deal, new sponsor and a pretty good idea of what the stadium will cost us plus what the sponsorship for that will bring in. Plus, there's the money from the overseas TV rights to come and whether we'll have CL money to spend next season.

It makes good sense for us to be cautiously sensible right now. If all parties have agreed to wait until this season is over and 'pick up the cudgel's in a summer when there are no tournaments, then that makes all the sense in the world to me right now. Let's get back into the CL for next season and have a search down the back of the sofa and make Harry the best offer we can. I'm sure he doesn't want to leave with a new baby on the way and so much going so well for him. A deal will be done.

All will be well. As the book's cover said, 'Don't Panic'.

  3. Defender Jan Vertonghen, 29, is set to sign a new contract at Tottenham but new deals for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, 29, and striker Harry Kane, 23, have been shelved. (Daily Mirror)

    <doh>
The Daily Mail is already ramping up it's tap-machine for United!

It's comforting to know that they have one of their hack journos sitting in on board meetings and discussing this with Levy to this depth.

How do we persuade Zidane to swap Isco for Sissoko?

Activate one of the super-secret clauses we added to the Bale transfer?

Poch has spoken in regards to the papers deciding we shouldn't be allowed to have Kane or Lloris...

For us they are players that are very important, Harry and Hugo. They are very happy to be here and we are very happy that they are here.

Maybe there are a lot of rumors that can affect our fans but the fans need to be quiet and have no worries about this because the players show their commitment to the club. They want to be here for the long term.

I think the club and the players are talking about maybe improving or having extended contracts. In the future I think it's not a big problem to do.

"Hopefully if I keep scoring, and we start winning trophies as we have the capability to do, I’ll become a Tottenham great." - Harry Kane, 19th November 2016

Don't expect to see that quote too often...

We did enquire about Schneiderlin late in the summer, but that was rebuffed because Moronho publicly stated that he had a place in their team...for Europa League matches.

The ones that get me are when we're linked to players who only just signed with their clubs in the summer so there's no way in R'lyeh that anyone at either club would entertain the idea, for example the stories linking us to Amadou Diawara that have started popping up in the past week or so.

So it turns out the OP needs an update, as nobody noticed we signed someone else in July: Jonathan de Bie (Mechelen, undisclosed)

To save trawling through months of tweets, for confirmation here he is on the teamsheet for today's U18 match

We were linked with him and March and he signed in June, IIRC.
He was only 15 at the time, so I assume that he wasn't included because of his age.
Let's hope that he can continue our recent good run of Belgian signings.

I'd be tempted to put a bid in for Shane Long as a short term addition.
He is a workaholic (so will fit our pressing system), knows the premier league and is a decent goal scorer and provider and he doesn't seem to be getting lots of game time at Southampton so maybe they'd be willing to sell.
Can't see who else will be available to be honest (striker wise)

There's this kid up at Celtic who can't stop scoring. Moussa something or other. Don't think we've ever been linked with him, but worth a look - although he might be a bit expensive as I'm told that they paid Fulham an absolute fortune for him.

    Sarcasm level: Charlie Sheen.

I've said this for about three years running and have been shot down for it every year <laugh>. Long is such a Pochettino-type player and offers that pace factor which Harry hasn't got.

Could have done with Ashley Williams as back up to Toby and Defoe as back up to Kane and I reckon we would have fared better in the last 6 games.

Ohh look both got bags of experience! I read Fergies book in which he said he was never shy to recruit experience because he knew they had what it took to get over the line and in situations where they were called upon, they had experience to help them cope with the pressure of knowing you are in to match or better the job of the bloke you are replacing. Plus they weren't inexperienced and out to over try in order to impress and thus capitulating under the pressure. He cited Laurent Blanc and getting Scholes out of retirement to lead his team to Fergie's last title, as examples.

There's a reason why he's only played for Reading, Hull, WBA and now struggling to get a game for Saints.

And why would Williams have signed for us? From being captain of a team to being relegated to the bench. It is why he didn't sign for Woolwich despite regularly being linked.
When Fergie was manager, players were happy to sit on their bench as they would win titles and get huge sums of money. It is what set United apart in those days.
