    Newcastle top 10?

I like Newcastle but can't see this. They have got £35M from us for Carroll and haven't spend it. Nolan has gone and has been replaced by a French player called Yohan Cabaye. He might do well but he's unproven and it could not work. They have brought Ba in the striking department and that's it. They need another striker and a left-back if Enrique goes. I can see them finishing about 13th.

Totally agree. I can't see any of our 3 signings kicking up a fuss if they don't start everygame, whereas keeping players happy at City is going to be far more difficult. Look at Balotelli, if he doesn't start for a few games in a row, do you think he'll be happy? And as you say, a split dressing room isn't going to help anyone. The same could be said about Arsenal with Fabregas & Nasri who seem to have overshadowed the rest of the team. United are always going to have a strong team spirit mainly beacause Ferguson won't stand for any rubbish and obviously has the full respect of the players.

I think there is a buzz around Liverpool at this moment with Kenny in charge and owners who look like they know how to run a football club. Everyone seems optimistic, and with most people still thinking City, United & Chelsea are firm favourites then we could quite easily sneak up on the outside. As we all know, we perform best when no one fancies us.

Whether United are weaker or not I don't think they are any stronger from a season which they won where everyone underperformed. Man City and Chelsea are hard to predict from the big changes at their clubs and Arsenal wont be any better off and will be lucky to finish above any of the aforementioned and ourselves. Considering we haven't sold any players who were part of our great form in the 2nd half of the season with a couple of needed additions plus more to come I think we can make the top 3.

Like in 2005,nobody including our own fans would have thought that in May 2005 Liverpool would be Kings of Europe. Well definitely not in August 2004 for a start.

If LFC manage top 4 this season i would be very surprised.
The new players may add a little to their squad depth but absolutely nothing to their defensive frailties.
In fact i would go as far as to predict they will struggle to keep 6th place with Sunderland demoting them.

Typical manc rubbish! But then no more can be expected of them when they can't even see their own frailties.

What defensive frailties? 5th Best defence in the league last season and that's even taking in to consideration the dreadful start with Roy. Since Kenny came in I think we had the 3rd best defence in the league. Reina the best keeper in the league without a doubt now. Only VDS could previously come close and he's been replaced by a keeper that looked very dodgey today.

After watching today, and City still don't seem to have that "it" about them to do it for the full campaign ( cracking squad but that killer instinct missing?) You have to say it is Man United and Chelsea. Would I like for us to be in the mix? Absolutely but I believe we need to focus on goals that are achievable at the moment, top 4 and a cup.

I didn't watch the charity shield, so can't comment. However, I was at Anfield on Saturday and Liverpool looked a different side to the other pre-season games, and against a strong Valencia. Only one game, I know, but I was very excited. It will be a highly competitive league this term.

Wishful thinking. I think people are a bit slow talking about the loss of Scholes since he has tbh been well past his best for at least 2-3 seasons. VDS is another story. But its early days with De Gea. Time will tell.

I think yesterday proved that Utd will definitely be in with a good shout this season. Personally, i think they're the ones to beat.

I personally don't think they have the best squad, but you can't knock Fergie's ability to get the best out his players.

I actually do think our squad is actually good though I'd admit the CM is weak at first glance. De Gea is a good keeper as are the other 2 in reserve. In defence we are very well catered for as we are on the wings. Up front we have 7 FW's to choose from though in my opinion Berb, Hernández, Rooney and Wellbeck are the only forwards I would be relying on a regular basis. Midfield is interesting as much as concerning. We all know the strengths and indeed shortcomings of Fletcher, Carrick and Anderson. But Cleverley is a good young player and added with Park, Jones (who can play DM) as well as the very real likely hood that Pogba, Morrison and maybe Norwood could feature this season, Utd's midfield isn't that weak.

    Defensive frailties?
I would be more worried about conceding goals at the end of pre-season than at the start or the middle. Liverpool were the sharpest they've been all pre-season on saturday and didn't concede. And they aren't as of yet 100% sharp. I reckon they have another 25% to go. Man United are probably at the same level and only an idiot would say they are defensively sound. Ferdinand was guilty of ball watching and De Gea was sluggish.
I don't think United fans know the difference between fitness and sharpness.
    PS.
Is Morrisson going to get weekend release to play for Man United in the coming season? He's going on an 18 month holiday. Its not too bad, its not as long as the 7 year one Giggs is going on.
