Although I think circumstances ultimately might have committed Puel, I think it's great that Sims had his [full] debut in front of Koeman.
Just a selected few from twitter this evening. It warms the heart. robert mercury @robmercury1975 11m11 minutes ago enough is enough!!! bye bye dutch t**t! #koemanout KOEMAN AGENDA @ffsosian 13m13 minutes ago TIME TO GO RONNY LAD #KOEMANOUT Everton FC @EvertonTwatter 28m28 minutes ago How much it cost to get him £7mil? Martinez payoff £10m. £5m a year. What a ****ing waste of money. #Koemanout
Josh had a great debut; back four were excellent and the midfield of JWP, Romeu and Hojbjerg was brilliant and having Redmond playing as a winger down the left worked very well.
Sims wouldn't have got a chance under Koeman though. He would have played Prowse there and played Clasie in the middle.
Agreed - he seemed to find some much space in the centre of the pitch and looked so good going forward; tackled well also. 3-man midfield suits our squad so much better.
Puel being interviewed on 5Live, says he watched Josh Sims training with the U23's and didn't think it was a risk picking him today. Up yours, Ron.
From the BBC website, "I wasn't aware of Josh Sims when I was here and he is not my problem - I work for Everton, not Southampton." I think we already know that Ronald, no surprises there.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has spoken to BBC Sport: "We know Saints are a good team - they play in Europe and have very good players. "Their system hasn't changed much [since Koeman was manager] - the goalkeeper and defensive players are the same and are still strong. "We had good chances but they had better chances to score and our start was really poor because even the kick off was ours and we lost the ball too fast. "Obviously after they scored within the first minute, they will then drop back, defend and wait for the counter and that's what they did. Having said that, I can't complain about our second half but if you don't score, you can't win. "I wasn't aware of Josh Sims when I was here and he is not my problem - I work for Everton, not Southampton." Doesn't that say it all?
Exactly. And I'm sure that was the main reason we didn't try to hang on to him when Everton came calling.
I had you for relegation. I was so wrong. great that you churn out talent after talent from your assembly line. Your Defense is always Solid. Envious tbh. If only you can find some support for Austin - you could mount a challenge within top half of the table.
Southampton manager Claude Puel speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a very good performance for us because we had a lot of injury problems before the match. "But it was a good game against a good team, it had lovely action and I took pleasure from our chances today - it's interesting for the future. "It's always better to start with a goal as normally its us conceding early. Today's performance was good for confidence after a loss at Spartak Moscow earlier this week. "Josh Sims - for his first Premier League game, I guess it's okay! "I am happy for him and the team. He showed very good progress with the Under 23's and thought it would be a good opportunity for him. "I think it's important to respect the academy here and when we have problems with injuries its fantastic to be able to start players from the academy." Damn, no wonder we lost on Thursday, we were playing the wrong team
top 10 looks certain. But Austin needs a real partner / back up to go any further. Long isn't going to cut it.
