I was on here last night Strolls. I must admit I'd been out for a few beers beforehand and thought that it was my beer brain that struggled to understand what was going on. I had another look this morning and despite making a vow to address Windom's post I've failed to do so. I think Bletchley Park and the Enigma machine would also struggle in deciphering his comments. What should've been a sensitive and emotional thread has been ruined with a load of insensitive and weirdo bollocks. Sometimes poster's should realise that sometimes it's best to say nothing.

I think it was possibly just as bad in the 60s and 70s. The key is the shame and fear that the victims feel. In those days to be labelled 'queer' was as bad as it could get and parents would often not believe that certain people, teachers, priests etc could be capable of such things so the shame of being a victim perpetuated the abuse suffered in frightened silence by the victims.

In my first year at secondary school there was a boy in our class who was much smaller than all the other boys but very 'pretty', almost 'angelic' looking. He turned out to be an exceptional cross-country runner and competed in national championships. We heard he often visited more than one teacher at their homes and as he went through the years at school he began to have behavioural problems. We later heard he was gay but also that a couple of the teachers involved were certainly 'wrong uns' as you'd say. I always suspected that several of these teachers who were always together out of class may have been preying on certain vulnerable boys. There were 2,200 pupils in that school so how many did they get their hands on?...

Nice story and so why didn't you do anything? You have to live with that
    Sooperhoop

I know exactly what I am and exactly how to fight this **** because of self enquiry

We had a metalwork teacher in the 70s in fifth form who liked to touch and tickle
So proud to say when it happened to me I put him up against the wall and was expelled . The system tried to brush it over but my late mother frought it and he was retired Caused a massive problem where we lived as his best mate the woodwork teacher lived next door

My late mother was wild as **** and said **** them all ... we are all made from our parents

So Mr Bender Jones was gone and school yard jokes were rife .

So what has changed today ... nothing except the fluff around it all

I know exactly what I am and live and let live until lines are crossed

Dragging up old cases like the BBC DJs and the declaring I thought there was something fishy is the wimps way. Going on a moral witch hunt and getting all Esther Ranson does what exactly? ... a bonding release of therapy groups like the Ines in Fight Club .

Do something if you see or hear of it
That goes for any negative evil energy out there. Never mind quoting second hand news quotes from ****s from a story of buggery and abuse then sprinkling fluff on it

Stop tomorrow's perverts by acting today ... no didn't think so

It was 50 years ago and it was the things schoolboys sniggered about and didn't think too much about at the time. We had no proof anyway so it would have been up to those involved to do something about it. They may well have done in later years as I only see very few of those friends from that time. I'm sure virtually every pupil from a school in those days knew of teachers, Scout group leaders or others in positions of trust who were 'wrong uns', it's sad but not something I'm going to lose sleep over now. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Listen this is a brilliant debate

I also believe that many perverts if I can put a blanket term to them were abused themselves so 50 year old stories are good for recognition nothing more

People imo can start inside themselves by no burying this stuff nor forgetting about it

Hard cold education is required IMO to state how wrong this is and the punishment for doing this must as high and extreme as possible

And yes I firmly believe that joking is allowed on any topic ... I doubt anyone on here would insult a victim directly but there would be love

I still believe that common human behaviour requires laughter after say a child has been crying ... you cheer them up ... you give them light you restore their joy .. these are basics

Fancying around like drama queens or pretending to be sad at a funeral as examples do what exactly ?

    I hate British Culture

Can someone start a Windom self importance thread? Using English that those of us that read it can understand.

Nope, because what he is saying is actually brutally correct, (Windom often speaks the truth clouded in his overkill way, I admiring him for keeping going on this thread).

Yes Windom is right, we are getting all hett up because we are being told to by the media.....the media have generally moved away from kids starving in Alleppo, because this story involves the FA and abused boys ( a far more "tasty" story than foreign and probably Muslium kids dying of starvation)

Yes Windom is right that abuse often (but not always) starts fom people who have themselves been abused.

Yes we do need to speak out when it happens, give people the "strength" to stand up and defend themselves and protect them when "authority" knocks them down (Windoms mother is a hero of his tale).

The biggest crime is not Windom making a joke of it...(I went to a gig once and saw a Jewish comedian, who did a fairly ordinary set about Jewish life, and then in the middle he told an joke about losing half his family in Auschwitz...it stopped the gig dead, but he explained that it was OK to laugh, because it was the only way he could deal with the emotion he felt was to make people laugh about it. I am still considering and thinking about what that comedian said two years later...is that what he intended perhaps???).

So many have jumped on Windom for the joke....I have heard that joke many many times before...I am pretty sure I have heard it on here before...without the outrage Windoms effort induced.
So it is Ok for it to be said outside the context of this particular thread, but not OK to be said on this thread today.......Double standards perhaps. I hope when you all next hear that joke again in the future that you all show the same outrage that you have on this page.

What this story highlights is the need for vigilance, but even the most stringent tests cannot pick up someone who has no history. So we need to listen...to the kids themselves, but with an open mind (for their will be stories that are not true or misconstrued also), but there will be truths from very frightened children.... There will also be no tales from VERY frightened children.

The saddest thing about this to me, was that he prayed on those kids greatest desires, it was why they didn't speak out at the time, I understand that too.
He was apparently a good coach, and his kids got to go places in the game...it was all they wanted, if they spoke out...they would lose their dream. So they kept quiet.

The double loss of innocence of those boys is heartbreaking

I have shown NO outrage at Windoms joke and in fact, had he not posted it, I may have. My objection to his posts on this thread are entirely that they are self indulgent, rambling and his grammar is almost non existent.

I also feel that the thread has been hijacked. A real shame as our focus should be on those that have suffered, not on the ramblings of a poster.

You have just expressed my views superbly Beth.

    And far more eloquently!

As a person with a history of depression, I more than understand why people don't come forward & why they are in self denial. Or for that matter, just wanting to leave everything buried.

This subject is far too important to get bogged down with it's impact on football. ALL sufferers, of all ages, deserve far more from ALL of us.

    Focus on the threads subject
    I don't know you as a person
I honestly don't give a rats arse what people think of me
This forum is entertainment nothing much more

I accept and respect your opinion but like mine it means nothing in the real world. I come across I expect as brash and frank because simply put I have no time to fluff about

Posts are nothing but modern comma like emails you can tell nothing from them in all honesty

So right Terry....I do not think this thread needs to be closed just yet. But 999s and Tramore...feel free too if you think it is neccessary.

The thread does not need to be hijacked...perhaps we need to dsicuss a few other aspects...did Crewe and Man City actually know anything. Following the convictions in 1994, was there an investigation, was there a cover up.... Why it has come out now, seems odd to me.

What is in place now to stop it happening again, do we know...are their checks on the junior and youth teams...Are there people in the club (like the old fashion "matron" you see in old films) that can act as a listening person.

What always seemed out of order was allowing coaches to take all the kids home with them, sounds unbelievable......
My hubbie would not let me bring the QPR first team home with me the night before matches I assure you!

As if grammar is at all important on a bloody forum
A forum is a perfect place for ranting and rambling ... in fact that exactly what they are designed for
I have posted a lot on this thread as it means a great deal to me the whole subject of sexual abuse is something I feel very strongly about
I certainly avoid threads like the RIP thread for exactly my reasons as it a collection of complete fluff and mourning ... everyday someone dies and so respect that and stay well clear

My contribution to this thread is to highlight the exact hypocrisy posters seem to give out ... of course its outrageous this story but to make the quantum leap that is some way I am not aware of the pain and don't care shows a total ignorance of inner self

To then be picked up on grammar FFS ... I have just come out of Homebase and saw three pieces of my work in there ... I'll take the Pepsi challenge with anyone on here re copywriting, story telling or tone of voice.

    FFS: grammar, missed words etc
    Get a loaf
