Reading the comments on Jay just makes me sad:emoticon-0106-cryin. He needed a run of games and he has just not been given that, the occasional start and then hauled off. I personally would like to persevere, still think there is a player there somewhere, probably being too sentimental.

I doubt I'm the only one you rub up the wrong way. Your curt reply to a very innocent statement from me was not conducive to any sort of discussion. You come across as very passive aggressive and frankly condescending.

I agree with those who say Jay should go on loan to a Championship side where he will play regularly and hopefully get his confidence back. He has a contract until 2019 so 5 months in the championship should give Saints some idea if he will ever be back to his best. Summer would then be decision time for the club. Maybe Cardiff would like him to join up with Rickie. :p

I'll take that as no conversation or discussion then. Fair enough. This was your decision and your reception of a very simple question. I really think you need to take things as they are rather than a preconceived view. It's a shame. I've obviously rubbed you the wrong way before and that has clouded your view on my post. I told you it was a simple question with no niggle but you wouldn't accept that. You still decided to make a slur on me and question my motives. You couldn't have been further from the truth. When someone comes out and says that, you should perhaps give them the benefit of any doubt.

I'll just leave you now that I know you don't post to have a discussion. I tried, but I won't engage you.

    Good luck.

Unfortunately this is professional football, at almost the highest level. We can't just pander to Jay's needs, to the potential determent of the team. For me, he probably has been given enough chances. He simply hasn't taken them. Unlike for example Long last season, when he got a chance thanks to Pelle's knee (and form), and took it with both hands. The reward for doing so was a lot more regular football for him.

Yes it may not be Jay's fault. He may still need even more chances, purely because of his injuries - ie he might not yet be at a level where he can potentially take those chances. But I can't see how we can give him those additional chances. Hence a loan deal makes a lot of sense.

Further, I don't think that Jay's needs are really served here at the moment. He isn't going to start regularly bar an injury crisis; better that he goes somewhere where he can reestablish himself.

And sadly, I'd probably sell him for half the mooted fee without blinking at eye.

My approach entirely, keep eyes on him at all times while away and if he's not progressing unfortunately he doesn't have a future here.

Honestly FoK, I don't see anything 'uppity' in that response at all.

For what it's worth, I know Fats a bit outside of the forum now, and a nicer, more generous and accepting guy, you couldn't hope to meet (and I suspect all those who have met him in real life would agree). You have this one very wrong mate.

The problem as usual is that the written word doesn't always come out the same way as in a conversation. However, sometimes you don't need explanations...just a quick 'sorry mate, didn't mean it to sound like that,' You aren't emasculated by not having the last word.

Just look back at all the spats he has with people on this forum. I'm sure he's a lovely bloke in real life. Maybe he just needs to work on his on line persona:emoticon-0148-yes:

Oh I think we're all guilty of unnecessary spats now and again! But I just mean in this instance, I think you jumped a little quick! (And yes, he is a lovely bloke in real life). Never mind. #westumbleon

No, I think you're right. If he was showing nothing in training he wouldn't even be getting on the bench.

Also, I think we are in danger of comparing him to a mythical Jay who never existed. He was still pretty raw when he got his injury. There have to be doubts that he'll ever fulfill the potential that he once showed, but I haven't written him off yet either.

I'm not sure many people have written him off though. There's a difference, at least in my mind, between writing him off and being happy/willing to accept a (potentially hypothetical) £11m offer for him.

He might yet fully recover, and ultimately be a 20 goal a season PL striker. It's why I'd be very happy to see him loaned out for the rest of the season, to get regular football every week. It can surely only help him (and us, in terms of making a decision). But at the same time, looking at things as they are right now, I don't see how the club could justify rejecting an £11m offer for him. Yes he might be worth £25m+ in two years time. But he also might be worth £1m in two years time - or worse (but hopefully not), retired. It's a cracking offer in my book (and why I don't believe that Hull, WBA or anyone else would actually make it).

Oh, I would probably say take the £11 million, it's too good a - hypothetical - offer to turn down.

How much did we pay Hull for Shane Long btw?

Sturridge has West Ham written all over him. Arsenal the only big club who potentially might be interested but can't really see it. Anyway he definitely isn't coming here.

Would take 11 mil for Jay. He was never a very good footballer technically, relying on his pace and directness during his good spell. The injuries he has had has almost certainly had an effect on this area so I just can't ever see him getting back to being good enough for where we want to be. Have no idea why West Brok or Hull would want him either though so this one is probably bullshit
