Yesterdays news about the wearing of medals not earned is going to be an offence, family members should be allowed too in memory of lost ones and when they do its with pride and respect not deception. Already this has happened BRITISH troops who risked their lives on the front line have been banned from wearing a medal to show they served in Afghanistan. Whitehall pen-pushers have ordered them to take off their Nato medals while French, Italians, Americans and Australians can wear theirs with pride.
I gave mine to my daughter along with my maroon & blue berets. Still treasure my fathers medals from Kenya & Korea.
Not sure how relavent the quality of the joke was. More why you puff your chest out for one but don't say boo to a goose with the other. You're a weak man honkey.
Oh dear! A fortnight ago we all joined in commemerating lost servicemen and now we are cheapening their medals.
I have another example for you. A couple of years ago The MOD announced that Bomber Crew Members from WW2 could claim a Clasp. Despite the 4% casualty rate per mission no Bomber Command Medal was ever issued. A Tour of Duty consisted of 30 missions. Do the maths. On each mission one plane in twenty-five didn't return. My Farther in Law died about that time and I applied mostly for the sake of his Grandsons. He did EIGHTY missions. About half in The Middle East the rest in the Italian Campaign. The MOD informed me that he was not entitled as he wasn't UK based. The casualty rate was about the same in all theatres. They did however send his medals which he had never claimed. I can understand why.
