He's not "trouble" these days, sober and seems to have calmed down a lot. He's just being forthright with his views, free speech and all that. Then again you don't slag your boss off and expect a new contract. He hasn't gone anywhere yet and may still stay. But yes Mike Ashley seems to control who comes in and Holt wouldn't be one that he'd have just because he's 30 and not going to have much re-sell value. He's also banned players talking about the club on twitter which was what Jose and Joey got fined for.
Yep thats the way, not because thats the way the fans want it, but the bloke who owns the club and there is FA we can do about it.
I had no doubt the fans do not want this and I feel for you having your club run in such a way. I hope to god it never happens to us.
I disagree here. I like the policy of buying young players. Too many times we have been stuck with players that are old and past it and we can't get rid of them. The age policy of transfers is one of the few things I like about the way the club is run.
Certainly is the way for us these days. Unfortunately the football side is secondary to the business. I think he is preparing for sale so I think it'll be like this until he moves on. I suppose the good thing is it should mean our finances are in good order when new ownership comes in. Could be next month or 5 years that's the only problem. I think most fans just see it as a case of ignoring what goes on with the mechanics of the club, contracts, transfer policy etc and just concentrate on supporting the players and manager to get us the results to stay in the division. He has total control so moaning at him is not going to change anything. I don't think Holt would be in keeping with our policy and is probably not the kind of striker we need. We have quite a few physical lads, we probably need a quick goalscorer who can feed off a Holt type. Don't know much about Holt but has looked canny the few times I've seen him. As for Barton I wanted him out a few year ago and hated him for the shame he kept bringing on us. I thought there was no chance of reform. But I hold my hands up and say he is a different guy these days. No drinking being the most important change I think. He can be qquite outspoken and he has overstepped the mark a bit with Twitter. It comes back to the club in the first instance though as they wanted him to take a significant pay cut, and when he refused the deal they just withdrew the contract offer altogether. He got upset with this and it snowballed from there. Problem is we need him but they just see him like Nolan as another high earner to get off the wage bill. Pardew seems to be ready to play the mediator as he clearly wants to keep him.
You like us signing young players in hope they will improve and take our club forward. Mike Ashley likes signing young players in hope they will improve and be sold for a large profit. It's nice signing youngsters and watching them grow - just depressing knowing what the end result will inevitably be.
I agree I like the policy in principle but at some stage you have to put football first and build. If you are just going to keep selling them once they develop then you'll end with a high turnover of players and the footballing side will become disjointed and stagnate. I want us to continue with the policy after this ownership is gone, but hopefully we'll retain some once they develop. And hopefully we'll also be in a position where we can also add experience etc when required. At least we're not mugs anymore, selling players cheaply and paying way over the odds for others.
Please no! I had to watch that over rated donkey play a few times at Shrewsbury and even in League 2 he looked poor most of the time
Yet everyone else seems to think we would buy Pavlycenko (****ing spelling) who is a year younger but will cost 3 times as much...... hmmmm!
Oh dear.... Think I read somewhere we were linked with Ola Toivonen, if this were to happen he would be a quality signing. Park Chu-Young anyone??
Some sensible comments, then this. Yes - 20 goals in that season at the Shrews, 45 in two for us, what a donkey!
This cannot and will not happen. He is valued too high at our club and I don't think any club would agree with / match our valuation. He is already a Norwich legend, our captain and leader on and off the field, has provided the highest amount of assists and goals in the last two seasons. So much of our play goes through Holty, he is a constant threat wins free kicks in dangerous areas, holds the ball well, two footed, great in the air, deceptively quick, strong, etc, etc. Am I hugely optimistic about the season ahead, but, without Holt my confidence would be considerably less. I know one man doesn't make a team but I would say Holty is without doubt the most important man within our team. IMHO I would not sell Holty for less than £6m - whom could we buy to replace at this late stage knowing they could match Holty's endeavours? The potential cost of Holt is nothing when compared in the grand scheme of staying up in the PL. I have total faith that Lambert sees it this way too and that he will be lining up against Wigan and causing their defence and absolute nightmare on Saturday! NaaridgeBoy P.S the BBC gossip source is Footybunker.com, there is a strong smell of bull s***e to this story!!
I think we've reached a consensus, it ain't gonna happen. Not right for Newcastle, not right for City. So Newcastle fans, where do you think you're likely finish this season, and what chance Pardew still being at the helm?
Nail on the head! You guys don't wanna sell, understandably, and I doubt we actually want to buy anyway. Just gossip ain't it! I think we'll finish around mid table - 9th-12th - and Pardew will probably still be manager. He's Mike Ashley's Yes Man. Ashley ain't gonna get rid of that How do you guys think you will do?
