I'll wait and see how he looks in the parade ring, but certainly interested in Meister Eckhardt in the 2:05 Newbury at 33/1. He hasn't run for nigh on 1000 days but was running very respectably in Grade 2 and Grade 3 races prior to his setback. Dropped to 142 here he could have been given a real chance, but will need to see how he looks before chancing a wager.
Doubledisdoubledat 8/1 Newcastle - horse that finished in front was nortonthorpelegend who won well early this week as part of heiss and his treble of Hughes rides Mystifiable 8/1 Newbury -say no more about the yard and this cd winner won first time out last season singles and a double for me .....
Apple's Jade in the Fighting Fifth. She has got to be better than she showed last time. She beat Petit Mouchoir that day and she made brown bread of Sceau Royal at Aintree. I dont think its wise to right her off just yet. Most of the ex-Mullins horses that are at Gordon's have been must better second time out. Shes also getting Annies 7lbs. I got on at 5/1 ew during the week but I still think she is good bet at the current prices.
Blaklion in the Hen, he jumps he stays and he could well be fairly handicapped. Tommy Silver, all about the ground. Also on Favorito Bucks who is very well handicapped in my book and as already mentioned Mystifiable for the forums favourite Fergal.
5/2 generally Sceau Royal with Apples Jade generally edging favouritism at 9/4, 2/1 or even 15/8 with Bet365. I fundamentally disagree with the market here and if it continues to go this way I will be mopping up some bigger prices in the morning on SR. Those hoping Apples Jade's seasonal debut was just a blip are clutching at straws IMHO. Sceau Royal has the form in the book this season and the 7lbs won't change that. She was getting 2lbs from 131-rated Rashaan at Down Royal and still failed.
Through the Newbury card for me, looks an absolute minefield right through. Threshold earlier had La Bague Au Roi at 3/1 but no such joy as she opened at Evs. Jumps well and has an engine underneath. Really looking forward to Ibis Du Rheu's chase debut, looks a staying chaser to keep on side but given who he is up against i'm only going in with the minimal of stake - 1/4 odds for the EW at 15/2 will do for me. Soft in the ground and we will see Venetia back to her best. Waldorf Salad won on reappearance last season and the brilliant Charlie Deutsch takes a further 5lbs off. Favorito Bucks wasn't finishing off his races when he joined Nicholls, according to his column he's had a wind op over the summer. Up in trip and on soft ground looks ideal and could also be very leniently handicapped given his poor runs last year. Gerry Felden looks tough to decipher but im taking a chance with Ritual of Senses. Was a close 3rd last time out when reportedly broke a blood vessel. The 2nd that day Miss Crick has since gone on to run a fine race in a Mares Hurdle. He was given her 7 lbs that day and is now rated 136. The selection is running off 130 here with jockey taking a further 3lb off. Cliff horse time - Saphir du Rheu looks too well handicapped to ignore, lovely pipe opener at Ascot jumping well in the main is runs here 10lbs lower than last year when a creditable 5th in bottomless ground. Better conditions for tomorrow and a massive 21lb swing with Smad Place says it all. There is plenty of potential unexposed 2nd season chasers here, however he is still relatively unexposed given his breathing issues last season and the switch to hurdles during his novice season. Ultragold has had a couple runs under his belt now this season so should now be fully fit, given hard tasks in both runs - behind Fox Norton and then well out of the handicap in the Haldon gold cup. He won over course and distance last time here and he gets my vote.
Off to Newbury tomorrow and for what it's worth... SOIESAUVAGE 16/1 Will watch THISTLECRACK FULL SHIFT 20/1 ROYAL GUARDSMAN 20/1 HOLLY BUSH HENRY 16/1 BLAKLION 8/1 MR MOLE 25/1
He is an interesting runner at a big price I have added him to my Selection so my two are SMAD PLACE and REGAL ENCORE
Big bet for me on BORN SURVIVOR @ 4/1 - stable on form and would have come on for his first run which was pretty decent seeing as it turned in to a flat race with hurdles being omitted a 2lb ride looks fair and still unexposed!
Saphir Du Rheu 9/1 looks a really fair price. Look out for the money down on that Jonno and JP rogue on bottom weight. Pair of them make me sick the corrupt bastards.
No mate. As well as being a BLAKLION fan (didnt I put it up on the Cheltenham preview?) I happen to think the VYTA DU ROC is shockingly well handicapped. Like Nass I also like TOMMY SILVER tomorrow.
You said it Stickler It takes a bit of a leap of faith to imagine she will come good in this, but given Hendo's record in this, it is difficult to ignore. Currently priced around 8-1 which is shocking given the competitiveness of this race, but if she wins who cares what the price is! In the preceding race, the Gerry Feilden, with 8 runners, i am crossing everything that there are no NR's, as I have Holly Bush Henry at 20-1 ew. Over at Newcastle I am one of those clutching at straws Oddy, re the chances of Apples Jade. I see that Cooper has chosen the owners other runner, but I can't forget her wins at Aintree and Punchy, and just don't beieve she gave her true running lto. In the lucky last, I am sticking with my favourite anagram, she has done well when carrying my shilling, and with a run under her belt, I think she will go close tomorrow
