Now Button being on a retainer for 2018 makes sense.

Still can't see him coming back even if Alonso does go to WEC.

McLaren need a complete clear out of the old guard.

The problem is that if they can't entice Lewis, Seb or Ricc in 2018, they are without a lead driver.

Seb could be open to a move if his relationship with Ferrari gets any more strained next year.

What an analogy haha. But you say the same for Palmer tbf Chris he only had one good showing in Oz this year.

Absolutely. I can't think of a season where more drivers have underwhelmed more than this year.

Max aside, who has really shone this year? There have been some really good drives, but few have really had an exceptional season overall.

On Palmer, I don't say he has been exceptional this year, but when you look at what others have done, I don't think he deserves the bad press he gets on here from most contributors. He has done no better or no worse than anyone around him on the grid, most of those have been around for a couple of seasons so see no reason why he should not at least get one more season to show whether he has learnt much this year or not. He was a slow learner in GP2, but his winning season was excellent. If he improves the way he did in GP2 then he could be quite good.

The worry is when you look at a lot of drivers who clearly reach the extent of their potential in their first season and show no improvement going forwards, yet seem to keep getting drives.

I would LOVE to see Ricciardo at McLaren. (Preferably in a resurgent McLaren <laugh>)

I just cannot see golden boy Verstappen ever being let go and he and Ricc will come to blows eventually, even more so if that Red Bull is bang on the money next season.

Could be some great quali and race battles with those two though.

Out the door by the looks of it, unless he can take his Banco de Brasil money over to Manor. Am sure it will be very welcome over there.

He very much can't. the banco de brasil money is gone. That's why he's lost the Sauber drive.

Is the sponsorship linked to Sauber or Nasr? Did they say the ended the deal with Sauber because they had been told Nasr wasn't going to drive with them in 2017? Not sure on the small print of it all. Some sponsors follow the driver.

They sponsored Nasr specifically, but they are under new management and don't wish to sponsor racing anymore.

Hence Nasr has no money and his career is over.
