Maybe we cancel Gallagher's loan with Blackburn (if we're able to), but give them Jay on loan in exchange. Leaves us with the same number of bodies, whilst hopefully ensuring that Jay joins a club who have both the capacity and the need to play him every week.

 

It's a good shout, I was in favour of him staying to build confidence. I'm hoping we dip into the market in Jan, not sure that's likely though.

 

Jay should have gone on loan as was rumoured to be happening at the time. He has no match sharpness at all. Needs games but needs them at a lower level for a while. Now we are relying on him which is ridiculous. Should have bought a striker and it is showing every game.

There's no way we could have loaned Jay out without a replacement signed in the summer....sometimes you just need bodies. My guess would be that we tried to sign a striker and couldn't land one...more likely than we didn't try at all (which is the reported story).

 

Group L is the Group of Death. One team on 7 the rest of 6. Fun and games to be had there!! Athletic through on the strength of the home form. Despite looking wobbly in earlier matches maybe the bete noire of Manchester United could go a long way. If the Saints are feeling the pressure, United must have been feeling it such is the weight of expectation. Maybe Mourinho is plotting to win the EL as an entry to the CL. Wouldn't put it past him to do it.

I agree that we would have needed another striker if we loaned him out, and probably didn't put too much effort into finding one. Unfortunately, we needed an extra striker, and Jay really could use a loan spell. Wasn't terribly enthused about the Hull rumour; even with their threadbare squad he'd be starved for opportunities. The Championship is probably his level until he gets back to speed...if he can.

 

I must say I am disappointed - partly because we lost (although we can still get through with a win in the next game) but mainly because of the slagging off of the the players and manager as soon as we went behind. Apparently we'll never score another goal with Shane, Jay or Charlie in the team (cos they've never scored a goal between them, ever). Apparently, without Tadic playing we'll never win another game. (these are the same people who frequently slag off Tadic for fading out of games after having only done a few fancy turns without results) If any of the team read these posts I'm not surprised they lack a bit of confidence because we must be absolutely crap! Supporters support their team don't they? Cue - yeh but, I'm allowed my opinion, but if your opinion is everything is crap you're wasting your life.

I don't necessarily agree. Without being mean he has been next to useless. I would rather have played another midfielder.... DAVIS....

I wonder if people would feel better if the board released a list of people we realistically could have bought. It would probably have read something like -

1 - Simone Zaza for £20m. Cos he's turned out really great.

2 - Musa - decided to go to the champions.

3 - Ali Dia

I mean that will change over the next few windows, but I expect the genuine options were limited too.

 

I never turn off saints when they're on tv but tonight I turned over and watched Emmerdale.

Pretty much the worst response to a half time team talk that I have witnessed since Puel arrived. On paper that team looked damn good.. Martina and McQueen to provide the crosses and 3 front players who can all score goals on their day. Our tempo was just too darn slow and when we got to the final third there were not enough bodies inside the area to worry Sparta. This is a lean spell and the first real test for Puel to lift the team at a very crucial time. Not too worried as apart from Hull away, we have looked a very decent side playing entertaining football

 

Sebastien Haller was probably the most-rumoured striker, and he'd have been reasonably priced (he didn't get sold in the window). Whether he'd have been a major upgrade is another matter, but he probably would have gotten significant game action with Shane/Jay struggling for form.

 

It's hours after the game and I'm still fuming.

They just don't get it. When I say "they" I mean, the players and the management.

They don't get that to us fans, appearing in the Europa Cup is something special. A reward not only for us, but for the players, for the WHOLE club.

So why the **** are the players and management treating it like the Football League U23 poxy cup?! That's how it bloody looks to me.

I know that no player plays bad on purpose, but I also know that a whole bloody team and even subs, play that bad because they are not motivated individually and collectively.

And don't get me started on our "attack". Christ, I've seen Paul Moody play up front for Southampton and I reckon even he would be more threat than Long & J-Rod.

I am not going over the top when saying that was only of the most embarrassing performances I have ever seen from a Saints side in 40 years watching them.

Clasie... as I've said time and time before, what is the bloody point of him? Useless.
Højbjerg... gone backwards in last month.
Ward-Prowse... never going to make it. Had enough chances when starting games. He's just not good enough.
Rodriguez... Great Ali Dia impersonation. He's THAT bad now. Shot to bits.
Long ... Not had a shot on target in 6 months. More interested in winning fouls than scoring.
Redmond.... My initial gut feeling about him has been proved right. Show pony and not even an average one at that.

Puel... team is as dynamic & interesting as he is.
