Guitars?

  1. Just checked for you, and you can pick up a generic Strat tremolo arm for £6-£8, depending on what you need. Don't pay £15 for the genuine Fender one, as the punters won't notice the difference.

I'd already told him about the tremolo system. I know it took you a while to google it, but you should have read the thread first :)

  5. As someone who has around 12 electric guitars currently in his collection - and who has sold more than that, over the years - I can very much assure you that I know a great deal about guitars, Skiddy.

I've even made a couple of Strats. Well, it was more like assembling them. I bought the necks (genuine Fender) off Ebay, and had the bodies made for me by a decent luthier that I know. On one of them, I had the pick-ups custom made to my own specification, and I did all the wiring/soldering myself, using quality components. The fun bit was painting the bodies. One of the bodies (made of two-piece alder), I spray painted Daphne blue, and the other (made of three-piece swamp ash), I stained dark green and then finished off with a few coats of beeswax. I drilled all the ports and fitted the tremolo systems to both guitars.

I may post a photo of the green Strat, which is my favourite of the two, and is one that I have actually gigged.

    Around 12 guitars ?

Surely you would know how many you have got ? Unless you're making it up of course.

Yep $1.35 to a US dollar. Just working out that the Stingray cost you around £178 !

Are you sure it's a Musicman Stringray ?If it is, it's the bargain of the century

The only way I'm sure is my son said and he's a superb musician .
Took his band to a battle of the bands in our city at a bar when 3 members of the band were 15 and the drummer was 11.
What a parent eh ..lol . two different nights they played at 1oclock in the morning and had to be led to the stage and led off when they were done ...and they won !!.
They won a few guitars ( which they gave to their teacher ) , studio time and various other things ...to make a short story long with pride . My son can play anything .
I never buy what's needed with used equipment and instruments , I buy deals or what I can con off people and businesses .

It's an incredible price for a Musicman Stingray. As mentioned the cheapest ones second hand are around £800, and most average at around £1500, with the early pre ernie ball Stingrays going for anything up to around £4000.

Your son sounds like a really competent musician. The band I play in is full of 'proper' musicians, whereas I'm more of a hobbyist. I can play well but I don't read music. We have two Sax players, one of which also plays Violin and sings, the other is an incredible musician who plays Piano, Guitar, Sax and drums, but he is a terrible singer <laugh> Our keyboard player used to play in an Indie band of some repute in the late 80's and 90's. His band were favourites of John Peel and were often played on his shows. We then have a singer who teaches music, a drummer who is a complete stoner but a superb drummer, and equally stoned and competent Percussionist/Timbale/Conga player

  15. At one point, I had over 20, but sold a load. Most of the guitars I have are locked away in their cases, in my music room. I may have more than 12, I may have less, does it really matter that much to you?

They both play Tenor, when they harmonise it's fantastic.
I love the sound of the sax. On some of our Afro tracks one of the Sax players plays his Baritone, it's almost as big as him !
