The spiral referred to in the OP is, of course, to LCFC's overall decline since their title win last season, not to their early performance in the CL.

It would appear that Ranieri has sacrificed the EPL for glory in the CL. It is a brave move on his part, and one that appears to be paying off. But, of course, the group stage merely earns teams the right to get to the knockout stages, there is no prize handed out at the end of the group stage - as Arsenal have discovered for 17 consecutive seasons.

A part of me quite admires LCFC - something I could never have admitted, back in my old wumming days. It hurts me to have created this thread, but I had to call it as I saw it. Nothing has changed on that score. However, what I will say is that I genuinely hope that LCFC don't get a horrible whipping in the knock-out stage, as everyone (including LCFC fans) is expecting. That would be cruel, given their superb achievement so far.

The thing about giving up wumming, is that I can appreciate all of these things, and not be embarrassed about expressing them.

 

I guess the knockout stages are going to be something that Spurs won't have to worry themselves with ?

I cannot know what is in his mind, of course, but it could be that Poch is determined to protect our unbeaten run in the Premier League, and is prepared to sacrifice the CL. I'm sure, in an ideal world, he rather not have the long list of injuries that he has.
