Terrible journalism, they've put Chelsea at 19th on the basis that their ground holds 51,000, ignoring the fact it only hold 41,000 and has been sold out for every game.

And there's no way West Ham has been 99.9% full this season, not even close.

Correct re Chelsea. How did they come up with a 51,000 capacity?

West Ham's average crowd this season has been 56,952. What percentage of capacity is that then?

Would be great to see some stats that were based on true attendance rather than the bullshit every club comes out with.

West Ham have a listed capacity of 60,000 so about 94% capacity. Although having watched West Ham home games this season I think 56,952 might be a very generous estimate.

I believe at the moment they have only been issued a safety certificate for 57,000 so it is more like 99.9%. They were hoping to have it up to 60,000 after the first couple of games but something about persistent standing has meant it hasn't been granted yet.

Its clearly tickets sold and not actual attendees though, there's been large blocks of empty seats at nearly all the games. Thousands of the new season ticket holders are just not turning up.

They have only been granted permission for 57,000 seats to be used so it is more like 99.9%.

The figures are based on tickets sold and we all know in London especially a lot are bought to be sold on to tourists. West Ham apparently have a 20,000 waiting list for season tickets as do a number of other clubs.

Ehab is showing these clubs a thing or two about how to fill a stadium, isn't he?
I think even the crowds which make us bottom of this list are a generous over estimate.

    Fair enough.

I don't understand their numbers anyway, I thought Premier League rules stated you had to give away fans 10% (up to a limit of 3,000) and keep 10% available for match day tickets, but they've apparently got 52,000 pass-holders, which only leaves 2,000 match day tickets.

There are going to be 3,000 empty seats at every game given they are only allowed 57,000 in a 60,000 stadium at the moment apart from any not turning up.

So did I but PL rules are elastic. At least with certain clubs. Haven't they already said because of the layout of the stadium that Man Utd will be exempt from the away fans pitchside tickets ruling that is coming in?

Clubs would be better off following the lead of clubs like Bayern Munich which sell a lower percentage of season tickets than clubs here do so as to give a wider range of fans the chance of experiencing a game. Of course Bayern have more members than any club in the world with about 270,000 members paying aboout £50 a year for the chance to go in a draw for a ticket, more than our income for ticket sales so they gain in more ways than one.
Surprised that Benicia are second for members, expected it to be Barcelona.

I'd assume we'd come last but it would be nice to see actual proper attendance figures rather than the made up ****e all clubs seem to put out.

That would be difficult to do. The police get figures of those actually entering to stadiums to base their assessments for police numbers required. Whether they would release those figures to help compile an accurate list is doubtful. Though a few seasons back Manchester Police did do that. In the season in question despite every game being a 75,000 sell out and no tickets available for a league game the highest number in the stadium was 72,000 against Liverpool and the lowest 58,000 against Southampton. The only game which was actually full to capacity was a Champions League game where the capacity is slightly reduced from 75,000.

Surely the police get the figures from the clubs?

Unfortunately I assume the clubs dont want to release those figures.

    Would be nice is all.

I don't think, the police do get this information automatically. They collate this information themselves as far as I know.

You see the odd article that shows the difference between tickets sold and actual attendance, this is an Arsenal list published last year

There's been a lot more than that according to their own fans.

They're planning on monitoring which season tickets aren't been used and giving people on the waiting list the option to buy them next year instead.

So they should. We all know touts buy them up in London, Liverpool and Manchester.

Is happening with City. A group in my local, consisting of "fans" of Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and a Spurs one bought a membership for City. If they all just see their team once and cancel it before the end of the season it would be cheaper, if they could even get a ticket, of travelling to one of those clubs home games.
One of them likes football in general so uses it for quite a few City games. Doubtless we have a number in Hull and East Riding have done similar which is why the announced figures don't match up to the swathes of empty seats.

Considering 7 of the police figures are bang on 60k, I would suggest that these figures are guesstimates, not true figures of people through the turnstiles.
