It's easy to get drawn into things when opinions differ! People get frustrated when they don't see their argument being accepted, but this is a debating forum and I like it!

You made that clear when we had a tussle a few months ago. I was disappointed not to meet you on my last visit so I hope you can make it on my next one! <hug>

I agree with some of your post Dave, but the highlighted bit is a tad hypocritical in my opinion.
Is it respectful when you use the slaphead emoticon more often than not in replying to various people?
And not to rate someone as a human? Is that really respectful?

In that case, can you really complain/moan about it if others think the same way as you?

I have no problem with anyone else on here whether we agree or disagree, those two's opinion on me does not bother me in the least, that's as much as you'll get from me no matter how many times you go back to it!

Am I really SO unclear in how I explain things, or are you both just deliberately picking up on a few chosen words, and twisting them to suit your argument. I´ve never ever once had a problem with people having a difference of opinion, or not agreeing with each other. If we did all agree on every point, there´d be no point having the forum at all. The reason I´m leaving is partly as Dave said, there´s a lot more aggression creeping into comments and replies that people make, and whereas in the old days, the majority of posters could agree to disagree AMICABLY, it seems as if that is now the exception rather than the rule. Particularly if, like me, someone has an opinion which doesn´t necessarily follow the majority line, or have an ambition for the Club far below that, others think they ought to have. I´ve certainly felt the brunt of people´s aggression for having exactly that viewpoint,. and been made to feel that I´m not really a ´proper´ supporter - that makes it neither enjoyable or interesting being here. And yes, naturally ILD, I could put you, and anyone else on ´ignore´, but what´s the point of coming onto a forum and then not hearing what people have to say? If people could respect each others´ viewpoints irrespective of what they said, there would be no need for an ignore button in the first place. In fact, having an ignore button, allows and almost encourages people to say just what they like, because they then think they can get away with it, by telling others "oh you can just put me on ignore if you don´t like it"

Also the tendency to label people ´happy clappers´ or something else or generally just stigmatise them, for not toeing the popular line, is dispicable, and something I should have thought the mods could have tried to keep to a minimum.

I know it´s a cliché, but life really IS too short, and football never has been, and never will be, THAT important, to argue ones life away on here.

If you stay in the minority for long enough people do change their mind. I got loads of stick when I first said Martin was not a CB / should not be captain, we should have a good clear out of deadwood over the summer & when I first said AN should go (was only a month or 2 ago). I've been getting grief for years, from some posters, for the views that I've expressed that don't fit the status quo. Generally all of us tend to think we're being unfairly treated when we're in the minority, which often is not the case.

I also don't think the forum's any more aggressive in fact if anything it's got better, Munky & Canary Rob were both very aggressive in getting their points across. Most of us free thinkers on here have been where you are now.

Fair comments well made Canario <ok>
The state the club is currently in - both on and off the pitch, was always going to cause consternation and polarisation of fans' views (it at least shows we all still care!) but I agree that ramming one's point home by name-calling and slagging off is not the way forward.
Especially when it becomes apparent the never the twain will agree on a certain point, time to leave it and visit a different thread, perhaps. Agreeing to disagree on an issue where there'll never be an outright winner is far more adult than either slagging off - or flouncing off <ok>

The Moderation team should really come down hard on the subhuman filth that use derogatory terms like "happy clappers ".

I have to agree with you RBF, labelling people with differing views as happy clappers is not exactly conducive to encouraging open debate on this forum. And no doubt many of these "happy clappers" have moved on to pastures new, preferring not to engage in such infantile name calling. But interestingly, it was a moderator who was the last forum member to use the term happy clapper, so it would appear that far from trying to keep it to a minimum, it could be justifiably argued that he is trying to encourage it .
"Have you noticed how the happy clappers have not reappeared - just
when they're needed the most, so far this season <whistle>;) ( Rumour Mill - post 32)

Misinterpretation at it's finest, squire <yikes>
I was responding to the previous comment (#31) which mentioned the term. My response was to the paper/plastic 'things' they used to leave on all the seats to try and generate some atmosphere at games where Hughton alone couldn't.
Imho, if the term gets used about fellow fans, (which I may well have done in the past) it's those who steadfastly refuse to see that all is not currently rosy in the canary garden. <ok>
