Pete would gladly have every demographic but obese accountants paying 99% tax. If the milkman knocked up Ula and she convinced him it was his he'd be calling for doubling child tax credits.

Because women are generally better at being mums. Nature appears to have designed them that way.

I was happy to share childcare with my son's mum when he was little. Grateful, in fact. But to do it full time while his num worked full time? Not sure many men would be up for that. Or many women I don't suppose.

Don't talk such rubbish.....A mother has to put her children first and should never be put into the stressful pressure of having to find work or lose benefits....They should have a choice and not penalized if they prefer to stay home with their children.........It's ok for these toffs that has never ever experienced the true life of the poor and working classes living off the salaries and the privileges that they do......Hopefully Brexit will be watered down and the supreme courts take less time than the lower courts did in throwing Theresa's case out of court and forcing a debate in parliament and the house of lords. It is what sovereignty is all about which the PM only wants to use when it suits......

    I agree,
It's becoming more and more common for both parents to adjust/shorten shifts rather than pay for childcare as far as I can tell.

We've havent paid for childcare since kids started school. Always done 50:50, never been a question of choosing, simply by having flexible hours.

I know mate, in those circumstances it works for some, just saying I couldn't do it.

It wouldn't sit right, I suppose I'm old school

Figures reveal how European voters are increasingly turning against the pampered liberal elite in favour of strong politicians who they believe will better serve their interests.

Of 12 EU countries ranked by the level of support for populist politicians, who are predominantly eurosceptic, authoritarian leaders scored more than 40 per cent of the vote in all but four.

And in a particularly worrying sign for the Brussels establishment Britain - which has already voted to leave - is far from top of the list when it comes to disdain for the out of touch elite.

Brussels bureaucrats will be especially alarmed by the outcome for France, where a huge 63 per cent of voters expressed their preference for populist leaders over mainstream politicians.

Right-wing leader Marine Le Pen, head of the anti-EU Front National, is expected to reach at least the second round in the country’s presidential election next spring and is riding high in the polls.

If she were to perform a Trump-like surprise victory by beating the mainstream conservatives to the Elysee Palace she has promised to pull France out of the EU in a move which would surely spell the end for the bloc.

Elsewhere, in Holland, backing for predominantly anti-immigrant, anti-Brussels politicians is also hugely on the rise, with 55 per of voters lending them their backing.

The results will provide a huge boost for the eurosceptic leader Geert Wilders, whose party is currently neck and neck with the ruling conservatives going into next March’s general election.

And finally in Italy, which could face its own election at the start of next year, some 47 per cent of voters expressed a preference for authoritarian leaders.

If current premier Matteo Renzi loses a referendum on constitutional reform next month he has promised to resign, sparking a ballot at which the eurosceptic Five Star Movement would be expected to hoover up huge numbers of votes.

FURIOUS Italian leader Matteo Renzi today threatened to fatally cripple the entire European project unless Brussels bureaucrats do more to sort out the migrant crisis.

In an extraordinary threat the apoplectic PM vowed to veto the EU budget and starve Brussels of taxpayers’ cash, inducing complete paralysis, if the refugee chaos is not fixed by the end of this year.

A visibly angry Mr Renzi warned that Italy “cannot survive” another influx of migrants in 2017 similar to the one it faced this year and blasted Europe’s “inability to show solidarity” on the issue.

His remarkable threat marks another ratcheting up of the growing tensions between Rome and Brussels, whose friendship has been stretched to breaking point by the migration crisis.

IRELAND must leave the European Union before it is too late, a politician has claimed, after it was revealed the country’s EU budget contribution is to balloon over the next few years.

A Freedom of Information request by an Irish councillor revealed the nation’s contribution will rise by almost 25 per cent by 2021.

Councillor James Charity of Galway County Council believes the shocking figures, provided by the Department of Finance (DoF) and exclusively seen by Express.co.uk, show the country must urgently assess whether it would be better off following the UK’s lead and quitting the bloc.

The figures show Ireland’s EU budget contribution has grown rapidly from €1.529bn in 2006 to €1.952bn last year, and is set to further grow.

Estimates put forward by Irish ministers show the contribution will continue to expand, from €2.075bn this year to an eye-watering €2.425bn in 2021.
These figures may actually increase further, as they were put forward before the UK voted Leave this summer.

Unlike many EU countries, Ireland is now a net contributor to the 28-nation club, meaning more money is giving than received after many years of the reverse being true.

EASTERN European countries are queuing up to develop closer ties with Russia after becoming increasingly disappointed with the co-operation from the European Union, according to reports.

Two countries in particular - Moldova and Bulgaria - are reportedly seeing a big rise in the popularity of Pro-Russia forces, and recent election results have provided more proof the countries look set to ditch their European neighbours in favour of closer Russian ties.

Bulgaria – who joined the bloc in 2007 – recently elected pro-Russian candidate, Rumen Radev, as their new president, while Igor Dodon - whose ambition to be closer to Russia was a large part of his campaign manifesto - was elected Moldova’s president last week.

Trade sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU and the US has had a significant impact on some Eastern European countries.

After Brexit and increasing speculation that other nations - including France and Sweden - could be considering leaving the trade bloc, Eastern Europe may begin to question whether it would be more beneficial to align with Russia rather than remain part of the crumbling EU.

The readiness of some countries to move closer to Russia could see a revival of the Russian sphere of influence, which would redistribute power in Europe and could even spell the end for the EU.

No surprise, internal pressures are building for the EU to weaken free movement and strengthen borders.

Renzi can threaten all he wants. Technically, he doesn't have a veto. The new budget can be passed on a majority.

However, he has a valid point. Italy is bearing the brunt of this flood of immigrants with, apparently, very little help from their so called allies. Particularly those in the eastern bloc.

For those hung up om messengers over messages, the Guardian's view.

Ireland should be drawing up contingency plans for the EU unravelling after Brexit and a possible French departure, an economic adviser to successive Irish governments has said.

Dr Sean Barrett urged Enda Kenny’s administration in Dublin to strongly back any French attempt to gain more concessions from Brussels to prevent a possible “Frexit”.

The economic expert claimed the republic had been too distracted by an election earlier this year to do more to persuade fellow EU states to grant David Cameron a better deal from Brussels to prevent Brexit.

The Trinity College Dublin academic, one of a core of advisers who persuaded the then taoiseachCharles J Haughey to create a more open economy, leading to the Celtic Tiger economic boom years, said the EU’s collapse was a possibility, especially if the Eurosceptic Front National leader, Marine Le Pen, becomes president of France next year.
