I'm not saying they didnt cover many reggae tracks, I just never saw a problem with it. They also took the message and brought it down to their own community - a reflection of their troubles/life experiences at the time.

Very snobbish attitude Sky which imo goes against what reggae is all about.

 

Have you seen In The Deep? Released around the same time and imo better.

 

Anyone who wants reggae will want whatever touches the soul bruh, it don't have to be a choice.

Anyway, Jamaican music has a strong tradition of doing covers
(whether tis an outright cover or just lifting parts of lyrics from songs) .
And doing them very well indeed.
