Brave subbing bringing Prince Harry on, he was put on to nullify Coutinho and as far as I could tell he did so. A couple of unlucky bounces were the cause of his apparent loss of possession, seemed to happen a lot today to Steve Davis as well, great interceptions but the ball always seemed to bounce to a black shirt. Incidentally I thought those black shirts merged into the crowd background and I am sure a couple of passes that went astray were because our player didn't see the Liverpool player.
IMO we didn't start off playing for the draw, but when we bought on Long and Rodriguez we kind of were. We sort of abandoned any pretense of a midfield or possession, and just bought on the pacey guys. The pace (plus height) helps on defense and also helps prevent their defenders from joining the attack for fear of the counter. But the only way we were going to score at that point is to try to play hopeful long balls and hope to get lucky.
I believe Charlie turned an ankle towards the end of the first half, but ran it off, it may have affected his mobility somewhat.
I don't think so. Feels and looks like a bit of a nasty sprain, so it'll be sore for a while. What a pillock!
Sorry, but I cannot accept that our defence was outstanding when they've carved us open 5-6 times. Keeping a clean sheet has more to do with Liverpool's poor finishing today.
They missed chances because of our defending, they just didn't have time to get composed and were flapping their efforts.
Just found out some huge fat Liverpool fan fell against my dad. Luckly he is ok apart from a big bruise on his chest and being a bit winded.
well played today chaps, a fair result in the end, that CB of yours looks very good indeed, he handled firmino well most of the game and bobbys no slouch either. maybe couldve done better with a few chances in the 2nd half especially Can's chance which went well wide and when firmino ran through but stuck in the wrong side of the post but all in all 'll take the point. good luck for the rest of the year
Not the Firmino chance . Poor defending from us, he was in acres of space but luckily for us his finishead was poor
Listening to David Pleat on the 5Live commentary (once he stopped talking about us as though we were bottom of the league and had absolutely no hope at all today), he was very complimentary about our defence and the team's hard work.
That's partly true but a defence under pressure most of the match will give away chances. Our defending on the whole was excellent. Virgil's tackle was superb and Fraser had a very good game.
I agree.....our dogged resistance and being constantly in their face probably helped to undermine their confidence and make them snatch at shots. Yes, they could have scored, but they didn't. A just reward for hard work. Have to say that Liverpool look a dangerous side and this could be a good season for them.
Maybe but that wasn't our fault that he fluffed it, was he in panic mode expecting to be clattered perhaps?
