The butt hurt of Liverpool fans on the Internet due to our defending is so enjoyable to see. Just go on twitter and add a curse word to Southampton, sit back and enjoy
6 in the league One fewer than Sánchez, Defoe, Mané (whose sale apparently sucked every single goal out of Saints) and Ibrahimović Vin
Exactly why I don't use Twitter, the place is full of idiots. A lot of us on here whilst gutted not to have won are happy with a point against yourselves.
At the end of the game I suggested that J-Rod's performance was a positive. He looked more on the ball than for a long time. Vin
Can't see it mate, he'd cost a fair few bob! We're heavily linked to Jonathan Tah from Leverkusen, which if we do get him I assume he'll replace Lovren.
Well, before the match I'd have been happy with the draw, so pretty pleased in all honesty. Thought attacking-wise we were pretty toothless ... today wasn't a game for Austin, it was crying out for a Long or Rodriguez up the front, getting in behind their defenders. Was a bit disappointed in Boufal (in the main, he had some glimpses) but early days yet. Redmond was poor, but then he did keep being clattered. Defence were outstanding though. Clatternberg was ****e once again. Was good to see Reed get some gametime too, think any criticism aimed at him is harsh.
And the people above him have penalties as well. I certainly don't see him as, in any way, a weak link. The fact that he was stone alone made him look pedestrian today. The point where he played a sublime, truly sublime touch to a through ball, forced his way to be able to cross then looked back not to see a player within (literally) forty yards was awful. Vin
Just got back.....cold and wet...no change that to freezing and wet. Good to get a point given all Liverpool's chances....been even nicer to have got that lucky win which others seem to get. Thought everyone played their socks off against a lively Liverpool side...though there were a few cock ups which could have been punished. No real complaints though. And I could hear announcements in the Kingsland!!!!
Although I rate Charlie and think he has done well - especially considering the lack of creativity we have shown this season. But "9th top scorer" is probably not a statistic to prove his worth haha. Not exactly impressive!
Thought Jay-Rod looked ok today, he held up the ball well and put in some good defensive work. Clearly set up for a draw, so can't complain too much about the final result
It is if you consider the eight above him and the quality of teams they are playing in: Costa, Agüero, Hazard, Lukaku, Sánchez, Defoe, Mané and Ibrahimović Vin
Don't think we were set up for a draw....we were set up to not let them score, especially early in the match when they would be freshest. However, we got few chances to change it to a win. The good thing about watching a match live is that you are surrounded by Saints fans....the bad thing is that you are surrounded by Saints fans. Had a right mouthy idiot on my left....hates Puel.
Well defoe is playing for Sunderland and Mane isn't even playing up front. If we want to be finishing top 6 we need higher than 9th top scorer, unless we have a few midfielders that chipped in regularly but unfortunately we do not. I get your point though, aside from Defoe they are all top, top players.
Disagree we were playing for the draw ... if that was the gameplan, I doubt we'd have bought on Long and Rodriguez.
Good point, althought both were very deep at times. At one point after a break had broken down I looked for Long...he was hanging out with the centre backs. Maybe I should have said set up for the counter attack
I agree another striker would be a plus, but that alone would not solve our goal scoring problems. We look at our best, going forward, when we hit on the break, with players streaming forward, giving the man on the ball options. Yet, when we play possession football, we don't have players making those forward runs, which stagnates the play and reduces our number of "decent" chances. Liverpool, today, showed how to create chances, simply by flooding forward from midfield, drawing defenders, then creating opportunities by simply stepping over the ball for a teammate who is now running into space. We did well to get a point, and as well as we did defend, we were fortunate that Liverpool had left their shooting boots at home.
